Chavez has made an address from Cuba, looking pale and having lost weight, in which he says that he's had a cancerous tumour removed.

He says that he's recovering but the opposition are speculating that he may have prostate cancer. If that's true, he may have to hand over power to his deputy before long, or forego running in the forthcoming election. And seeing as he heads a diverse coalition of political parties whose ties might be in doubt were he to die, there would certainly be major political reprecussions in Venezuela.
