Got a clamp to dash-mount my camcorder. So here's the last 4 days worth of non-turn-signal-using idiots on my daily commute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz3aNuK9ZCM Of course YouTube disabled my music track because I failed to beg permission from Warners Just play "Life in the Fast Lane" while watching. Oh, and FUCK YouTube and Warners.
Anyhoo, this was actually a pretty tame week, idiot-wise, so I'm fairly disappointed that I didn't capture the usual weaving and speeding and racing. The two guys running the lights made it more interesting, at least.
Pinnacle Studio 14. I've also just gotten Corel VideoStudio to try out - it has some features Pinnacle doesn't (direct-to-YouTube rendering) and according to a coworker it handles some formats that seem to confuse Pinnacle.
You don't there's a difference between pursuing a vocation and videotaping people who piss you off in traffic?
I'm gonna get pictures of all the people shooting video while they drive. That really irks me. Gotta admit, most of that didn't really look too bad to me, except maybe for that one idiot who left his signal on for a quarter mile before the lane change.
Well, Forbin said it wasn't a very bad week. That said, that video pretty much sums up a typical day's worth of driving for me.
@ the woodchuck. Around here people drive at night without their lights on. How can they not realize that something's off? We don't have that much light from streetlights. And the part where the guy comes to a stop on the on-ramp - happens here too, although usually it's when a whole bunch of cars are trying to get onto the highway and the guys in the right lane won't give them space or move to the passing lane.
At 1:44, you crossed a solid white line and passed on the shoulder. Ticket. (NJ Statutes 39:4-85) At 2:10, you failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Ticket. (NJ Statutes 39:4-144) At 2:54, you crossed a solid white line indicating a no passing/lane change zone prior to entering an intersection. Ticket. (NJ Statutes 39:4-86) Three violations in four days? Yeah, New Jersey does have some bad drivers, Spanky.
Ah, but I did stop at the 2:10 one - I cut before I came to a full stop, though. The rest - just keepin' things moving.
If the "you must signal when you're exiting, even when you're in a turn-only lane" laws were strictly enforced, I'd be paying a lot of tickets. I hate redundancy in most things and, to me, signaling that I'm turning right in a right-turn-only lane seems pretty...redundant.
^ Yeah, it is pretty redundant. But at least it tells other people around you that you know what you're doing; not everyone in turn-only lanes turns.
Redundant or not amigo, a turn is a turn. Besides, I've seen far too many people realize at the last minute they aren't in the lane they want and cut me off to get in front of me. It happens enough I actually expect it. I even signal on the freeway when approaching a dual exit when I'm in the option lane, just to let the other people around me know my intentions. Really though I'm a sonofabitch about signaling a turn but I admit there is one i usually don't unless there's somone behind me and that's into the driveway at the house. All others, lane changes included, get signaled in anything I drive. if they don't work for some reason I'll roll down the window and use hand signals but most people these days wouldn't have a clue. Nothing chaps my ass faster than some asshat coming up to an intersection and not signaling they are turning since not doing so pisses away my time waiting for the bastard to get there and turn. Say someone signals a turn, then the guy behind him does the same, especially in heavy traffic, they'll save me waiting for the four miles of cars behind them. Signals are a courtesy everyone should use outside of being the law. Anyone who doesn't is a shitheaded self centered asshole in my book and nine times out of ten they have a fucking cell phone pasted to their skull. Pah! [/rant] Edit: Wasn't directed at you man.
Yeah, I'm a stickler for signaling the vast majority of the time. Any time I'm not in a turn-only lane, actually. Even turning into my own driveway.
Ok, what's your cam setup? At the very least, I'll toss my Canon Powershot S5IS next time I drive my mom's car (as I don't own my own car) and shoot a vid with it.
What do you mean when you say direct to youtube rendering? Does pinnacle not export in a format that youtube will accept? I've been thinking about getting pinnacle myself for a bit but I'm wondering now about what you mean by that.
Obsessing over this stuff is unhealthy. You need to install a machinegun instead of a camera. Oh, and my favorite one in recent memory is the guy who, when he is parallel to the freeway onramp--but in the leftmost lane--suddenly decides he wants to get on the freeway. Instead of driving another block and turning around at the gas station, he chops the wheel and cuts across three lanes of 40+ mph traffic to make the ramp. Don't remember if he signal and/or did it at speed. I'm pretty sure he came to a complete stop (fucking over everyone behind him) to make the maneuver.
Come to Dallas with that cam! You'll get loads of idiots doing stupid shit on the highway. I'm with Caboose though, I'm a HUGE stickler for signaling. To me it's like trying to let someone know what you're about to do with your mouth taped shut -- it just doesn't work. I signal everywhere I go and because I drive a stick, I usually have the signal on WELLL before I actually need to because I'm thinking about the upcoming turn. Sometimes I turn my signal on when it isn't even necessary, I just do it out of habit.
In Mississippi you are supposed to move to the opposite lane when the cops have someone pulled over on the shoulder!
Just passed a law here on that recently, change lanes or slow to 35mph or face a hefty fine. Really needed it though, too many cops getting hit.
