If your only choices are "bad" and "worse," how can you fault choosing "bad?" No, he's right on. A lot of people speak from an emotional standpoint: "Children should be in schools, not in factories!" And then they do things like boycott the products of child labor. But ask yourself the question: does that help or hurt the children who labor?
That reasoning only applies if you see the situation as either option A or option B. I don't see it that way.
I don't really get the part about ticket scalpers. Who stands in line for tickets? I thought everything was pretty much done over fancy phones and interwebz nowadays.
If you're only looking at solutions an inch away from your nose, you're not going to see a whole lot of solutions. Take a step back, you might see a whole forest in the group of trees.
But for kids in developing countries, what possible opportunities do they have? Or, to put it another way, why would a child (or their parent) choose labor in a factory if there were some better option available? To be clear: I'm not saying child labor is a good thing and we should have more of it; I'm just saying that, for some poor countries, it's the best of the available alternatives.
But will we actually stop with truly deviant people or are we going to start fixing all imperfect people? The eugenicists may have had some good ideas but they were certainly corrupted, and rightly and roundly condemned.
Show me how to do that here. I'm completely serious. If I'm missing something in my analysis, show me where I'm missing it. Just sayin'.
No. You're just a white racist cracker. Why do you hate brown people Paladin? How dare you have an opinion not approved by the left!! That DHS video in the other thread is about you. Are you planning on blowing up a building?
Then maybe the problem is not child labor or child prostitution. Perhaps those are just symptoms of a much larger problem and that when that larger problem is addressed, the systems will clear up.
We're not talking about the US at any point in history. We're talking about a third world country where child labor is commonplace right now. What is their third alternative right now?
The eugenicists just went in to hiding. Today we call them Planned Parenthood where they and their allies on the left have created a holocaust of aborting black babies.
And it's just a coincidence that that's exactly what your corporate overlords want, and what maximises profits for them, right? Not only are there alternatives (none of which you would consider) but these kinds of "solutions" from the Washington Consensus school of international development have entirely failed when attempted. Deregulation, leading to child labour and its associated ills, keeps people poor.
That was already addressed in the article, and I believe Paladin touched on it as well. The third option is for the country that this is happening in to develop to a point where there is a third option.
Self-replicating robot mosquitoes to deliver the brain chips. Technically, this is "conquering the world", but I just won't call it that.
I scared my daughter over that. Wife got pissed. "Daddy could they really turn everything into a grey goop?" "yep. Sure could." I seriously wasn't expecting the fear that crept on her face after that.
If it was already touched on in the article, then he wouldn't have needed to write the article. His only motivation for writing this article was to make a "bad" or "worse" option and to justify the "bad". He was wrong. There is no justification for the "bad". The human race should strive to be better, not allowing excuses to revert.
