Why wouldn't they? I've always been open about what I think. You know, I headed off "the road to hell" quote with the words "and whatever you think of his results", because I knew the quote would come up. As for my being happy with his results; as to the aforementioned policies, yes. Like some members here cry about Obama being a Muslim, a Marxist, a terrible speaker without his teleprompter. Stuff like that?
Hmmm... If I commissioned a flag with, say, Captain Picard's face on it, do you think I could sneak it up on the flagpole at city hall without anyone noticing?
Irrelevant, since that can be said about every single leader, ever, from Alexander to Caligula to Lincoln to Stalin to Bush. And someone who thinks they're doing the right thing, when it's the wrong thing, is very dangerous.
Not surprising at all. Obama has been deified and worshipped by his supporters to the point that he is now a cult. As was mentioned by someone else, there would be howls of outrage and claims of imperialism by all those who support Obama had this been a Republican featured on a flag instead. There is and always will be a blatant double standard on that issue. Personally, I believe our flag should be respected more than this because of all that it stands for, but the man in me is willing to make a single exception. The US bikini flag (as long as it is being sported by someone qualified to do so).
A bunch of retired veterans (it's Florida, duh) went to the building and convinced them to remove it. [/thread]
This is a cool flag: Thinking about getting one to hang on my balcony. Don't have to worry about either keeping it lit or taking it down at night.
I already stated that regardless of what you think of his results, his intentions are genuinely good. Why did I say this? Because I know the old axiom about the road to hell being paved with good intentions, and made this statement to head off any need to continuously go over it again and again. It was also a point that while you may not agree with his results, he's not purposely trying to destroy the country, which is a claim that has been made on WF before. Come on guys, this is easy stuff. How many chain emails did it take for you to cobble that statement together? Seriously, are you a senior citizen with access to the internet? Better get ready for the MONDEX chip! It'll be the Antichrist taking over the world before you know it!
So American flag shirts, boxers, lapel pins, flags with Bush's face, flags with Reagan's face, flags with a cross on them, and flag placemats are all OK but as soon as someone puts Obama's face on it, it's disgraceful? Yup, no hypocrisy there. Get over it Florida, it's just a symbol.
Dude! Where can I get some of these? I totally want to hang one upside down in my window, and I'd love to be able to burn a few of these things.
YEP! Wilson, FDR, and Johnson had good intentions too, but look where their roads led us. The appropriate thing to say when a President says "I have a good idea" is, "for the love of whatever you hold dear, please keep it to yourself!!"
Short of the lapel pins every other example you provided is an abuse of the flag as well. Your point was again?
Can you link to the posts where all of you shouting "OUTRAGE!!11!" now have done so prior to January 2009?
Yeah, but when AF Gen Richard Myers who was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs at the time does it, no one got up in arms. Nor when a host of other 'abuses' occur. That's the point.
Flag themed clothing is not abuse, it's probably even a tribute. Or maybe it's just a theme. But it's not representing itself as THE flag, it's just a color pattern to resemble the flag and maybe show some patriotism. Putting a national leader's face on an existing national flag and flying it on a pole is more remeniscent of classic dictatorships. Nobody wants to see that here - and yeah, I'd have reacted the same to Bush's face. And yeah, Timmy, I hadn't yet realized that it was only this woman doing it this one place - I'd mistakenly assumed it was something DMC HQs were doing officially. So excuse my ignorance on that particular reaction.
"Made out of a flag" or just made with the flag pattern on it? I can understand it being wrong to take a flag and cut it up to make clothes.
They'd try, but I wouldn't care. I might even see if there are Bush flags available and burn some of those, too.
What a coincidence! Here I was just thinking how you sound like a DNC talking point scraped right out of the propaganda and playbook. Seriously, do you get paid to be Barack Obama's waterboy here? I'm still trying to get a feel for the personalities here, but I think I've got you pretty well pegged as a 1st class hope and change addict.
Oh, good, an uninformed opinion about what kind of stereotype you think I fit! I haven't seen one of those here in days!
For you to make this claim immediately after your own uninformed opinion about what kind of stereotype you think I fit is simply amazing. You even quoted what you said from yesterday in your reply. You seem to have a complete lack of self awareness.
