I wanted to teach myself video editing. So I did - and I thought I'd use Star Trek and my first project, and take a fun look at it's many continuity errors.

Second "episode" under construction as we speak. Enjoy!

You use Voyager as your example? Dude, they threw out continuity, rationality, and the entire show's fucking premise after the pilot! What did you really expect?

Oh, sorry. I'll try to remember to ask you which series' count and which don't next time.

You fucked up on Chekov's age. It's not a continuity error.

The alternate timeline started in 2233, before he was born.

If Chekov were born on a different date or concieved at a different time, it wouldn't be Chekov. It'd be the older brother that the Chekov from The Original Series never had. And, of course, it's supposed to be the same guy.

It wasn't a mistake made through ignorance, or something explained by the movie's time travel, but a deliberate retcon. They wanted Chekov in the movie, and changed his age to make it plausible.

That's some goofy logic right there. In fact, you can't really apply logic as we know it, because the entire Trek timeline took a sharp turn when history was changed.

And I wouldn't even blame AbramsTrek for that... it was Picard and his posse in First Contact that really mucked things up.

I could only watch a few minutes. I just don't take Trek that seriously.

Neither did KingDaniel. But, you'd have to watch more than a few minutes to know it.

The video is just a bunch of funny things that didn't add up.

It's not like .. Dayton or Captain X who scream at the top of their lungs because the font is wrong or worse, the actor is all wrong because he doesn't have the same eye color as Shatner.

I did try for a lighthearted tone. I'm not complaining, I'm poking fun.

I'll make it simple for you -- DS9 is the only one that counts.

Don't get me wrong I love most Trek but I don't geek out over stuff like that. Sometimes I catch stuff but I figure the writers aren't even that deep into the whole history. I deal with the story and move on.

I liked the Klingon battlecruiser segment: "there's one! There's one! There's one! There's one!"

Some of them were a bit contrived. The "hole in space", for instance. Yes, that had been recorded in The Immunity Syndrome, but they very quickly discovered that wasn't at all what it was.

The phaser dispersal thingy, you could have used a clip right from DS9, in "way of the warrior", they did broad dispersal sweeps looking for Odo as a changeling drill.

So, they forgot about that mode right within their own show.

NuChekov would be a younger brother, non?

I think it's an acceptable timeline hiccup that his parents met/had him later. We can even get metaphysical about how the "spirit/consciousness/thread of fate" that is Chekov was simply delayed in conception-but even I don't have enough weed for that.

More plausibly, that the script should've had him at a more appropriate age.

17??? Is "Andreyvich" suddenly Russian for "Wesley"?

Spock was born in 2230 in both time frames, Kirk was born in 2233 in both time frames.

Not sure where you're getting that, but I want to say in the original timeline Spock served aboard the Enterprise for something like 20 years before Kirk took command.

That actually makes more sense than 20, but I don't know where I got that number from anyway. A long time, at any rate.

I'd originally read it in a Star Trek gaming book about 12 years ago when I was doing research for my own Star Trek story. But, it's available on Wikipedia and memoryalpha or whatever that star trek timeline site is.

... let's see if I can find it somewhere ...
