According to the story, there will be an investigation, which will then be turned over to the DA, who will then decide whether to turn it to a grand jury, who would decide whether to indict or not.

Kinda like how the Sanford bit was operating until Public Opinion got in the way.

Let me get this straight you can kill someone just by forcing them on the ground beating them with your fist?..

So if you were just some guy heading back to your SUV and someone oh lets say an athletic 17yo kid jumps you and starts pounding on you you have a reasonable right to be concern for your life and if your armed you might feel the need to use the gun to save your life right?

My thoughts too. There aren't any witnesses, only a man admitting to homicide and an alleged rape/molestation victim who is going to back up whatever her father tells her to say. I'll wait until the results of the investigation and rape kit are released before I'm ready to form an opinion on whether or not the father was actually defending his daughter.

It's pretty cynical to think a Dad would send his 4 year old daughter to the hospital for exams and a rape kit if nothing had been done to her.

1) Are rape kits mandatory?

2) We're also making the assumption that she was raped. The article states it was sexual assault does not provide details on the extent of the sexual assault. Sexual assault could be either rape or molestation without penetration.

3) It's pretty unfair to pass judgment on this case without having all of the facts.

That was based on not knowing the outcome of the rape kit, if there wasn't a rape. The other possibility is something that may have occurred.

Um. There are many forms of sexual assault besides just rape (which assumes actual penetration)

I can guarantee you that if my husband or I ever found a guy, any guy, who had no business being there in my sleeping kid's room (girl or boy) - our assumptions are going to be swift and the chances of them walking away unscathed is not going to be good.

Hopefully the Dad caught the guy before he fully assaulted the girl.

Maybe everything is as it seems, but maybe it's not, and kids can be coached. That's been the storyline of many an ugly custody battle. If the dad is telling the truth, then he was acting in defense of his child and the prosecutor can reasonably decline to press charges on the grounds that there was no way he intended to commit murder. But there are other possibilities, and police will need to set emotion aside and look into them.

Yes, it is. But it's also cynical to think that the guest would molest the child in the first place. Clearly, something bad happened here; we're going to have to accept a certain amount of cynicism in dealing with it.

It happens. Three or four years ago I covered the arrest of a city councilman from a neigboring town who was attending a party at the home of some of his friends and he raped their 14-year old daughter during the party.

Pretty sure if I walked in on anyone that was molesting a child I would fucking kill them. Nevermind walking in on someone molesting one of my kids.

Whenever I'm out in public, I keep a keen eye out for kids. Especially in high traffic area. Pulled many a kid out of the way of getting hurt, and helped even more find their parents in a crowded store.

As a human being, I would think we're programming to protect our young ones. And if I can spend 3 hours with a kid that got lost in a mall while security tries to find his parents, I can be extremely protective when it comes to kids and anything harmful happening to them.

Killing would be the least I would do.

Right on. I have a daughter just about that age and I'm against the death penalty too. If I ever had to deal with that situation I'd chop his head off with a fucking axe. Anyone who loves their kids would give this guy a pass.

It's like that coach Sandusky trial: the first time one of the witnesses saw him "raping a boy in the shower" that whole thing should have been nipped in the bud right there. Years later all this comes up? Whatever person intitally saw shenanigans should have been on Sandusky like white on rice.

Most sexual assault/rape victims know their attackers.

And many child molestors go out their way to befriend those with children to have easier access to said kids.

The father and daughter know each other more than this alleged molester. There's no guarantee that the girl and alleged molester knew each other, even. All we know of him is that he was only a casual acquaintance of the father and "was known for his horse-grooming abilities."

Ughhhh forensic evidence on the daughter that proves molestation?
That really, really sucks. She WILL remember that. I had a friend long ago who got molested at a young age, and she was unphased by it until she turned about 13 and realized what that memory meant. She never did fully recover.

I think the part in the article where it mentioned her father hearing her scream bothers me the most. THAT disturbs me at the core. That poor child being violated by this son of a bitch, and her screaming out for her daddy, in terror.

It's sad that the sexual assault got so far as to leave physical evidence on her, and it seems like the father's actions were justifiable. It's still unfortunate a man died, but the father did everything he could.
