Congress was in session at the time FWIW.

What if there had been no rebellion on Flt. 93, or if it they had been unable to breach the cockpit, and the plane had dived through the Capitol dome at 500 mph.

A very large portion of the US gov't could have been erased in one fell swoop.

How would that have changed things in the aftermath, IYO?

It would have been the only positive note on that whole miserable day.

Well, given that the HoR sits on the left side of the Capitol and the Senate on the right (facing the building, IIRC), and without actually doing the math (plane's wingspan vs building size), if it hit directly dead-center on the dome, I'm guessing it'd only take out the rightmost-sitting Congressmen (thus GOP members) and the leftmost-sitting Senators (thus Dems). So we'd have still been left with half of the problem...

Also, do we KNOW it was headed to the Capitol? At one point I'd heard The White House...

I honestly don't think there would have been a much different outcome, except maybe an even stronger desire to send troops overseas.

There would be some additional spectacular footage of the events of that day, but otherwise little would be different. By the time Flight 93 was hijacked, the powers-that-be were already of the hijacking plots, so I doubt many (or any) Congresspeople would've been killed.

If Flight 93 had hit the Capitol, then we wouldn't be worrying about fixing the cracks in the dome, would we?

I think Flight 93 was for the White House.

Two planes target financial buildings in New York City, the two largest buildings in New York City and the site of a previous attack.

One plane hits the Pentagon, military headquarters of those evil American infidels.

And one hits the White House. Most terrorists probably don't even see Congress. It's the White House that is the symbol of America to them.

I think the level of general hysteria would have been ramped up even higher, and that civil liberties would have been hit harder than they were if the attack had actually managed to hit the actual governmental seat of power.

Let's be glad it didn't happen.

    Fuck no.

I hate all forms of organised religion. The only reason I appear to be "pro-muslim", which I'm not btw, is because I think that there are good and ban in all walks of life and all religions. I don't have to follow Islam to know that not every muslim is a nutjob terrorist.

To me, it's just the same as saying that I don'tthink every black teenage male is going to mug me at night.

I just don't do stereotypes and blanket bullshit.

Yeah, but their prophet was a lecherous pedophile. That's gotta mean something.

Oh, and a bright guy like you (moreover a Brit, for crissakes) shouldn't lose sight that for all the multitude of flaws, our kickass society with the wonders of the past 2 millenia was built in if not by a judeo-christian population.

The faithful unbelievers, in contrast to the faithful believers (excluding folks like you and I, obviously), are yet a minority in the developed world, and so we've yet to see precisely what kind of world a population of people who believe in nothing (or lack any doubts of the absence of something greater) would bear.

Actually, if you were Muslim, you would hardly be the world's first agnostic Muslim. As I'm sure you are aware, there are a great many Muslims who more or less follow the religion due to family and cultural pressure but who, in the privacy of their own minds, are agnostics or atheists.

Well, put it this way then, I am a publicaly declared agnostic.:)

But anyway, I am not even remotely a muslim. I was born half Jew, half Christian. If I was going to follow any religion, Islam is not it.

*Shock* *Horror* I am intelligent enough to not have to be a muslim to not count them all as savage beasts. :dayton:

I know the denizens of WF would desperately love to somehow prove me to be some sort of muslim or terrorist sympathiser, but it ain't happening anytime soon. Well, that is unless such a person is a moron who is unable to create seperations in a population of 2 billion. Anyhow, about those dirty Red, Gooks, Towlies and so on....... ;)
