Is he going to come out and make lame jokes and quote Dirty Harry or is he going to calmly rip Obama's throat out and channel Walt from Grand Turino? "I used to stack fucks likes you five feet high in Korea... use ya for sand bags. I'm no hero. I was just trying to get that babbling gook off my lawn!"
Sounds like it IS going to be Eastwood. He was noted flying in to Tampa and the orchestra at the convention was heard practicing the theme to "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." Can't wait to hear it.
I think you'll all find that the man is a separate entity from the roles the actor has played. Shocking concept, but really.
Aw man, I was totally gonna post the poster to "Absolute Power", but I forgot Gene Hackman played the president in that movie.
In what language? Interesting that he made that remark in 2004. One wonders what's changed to shift him from a libertarian to a Republican?
I believe Clint's a life-long Republican, and there's a very definite libertarian wing of the GOP (ahem, the guy typing this, for instance?)...I imagine he'll have a few comments about big government and the like.
First of all: satire. Stop pretending it isn't being used when it suits you. :dayon: Second: one can describe oneself as a libertarian without actually being in the official Libertarian party. Third: You smell like cabbage. Even over the internet.
So much for the chances of any third party, then. If Big Names like Eastwood pooled their resources and found a viable libertarian candidate, they might make some progress. Instead, they make speeches for the Republican candidate. Pity.
Clint's leanings are his own business. While it would be preferable for me if he supported a third party, he has no obligation to do so.
Personally, I don't want a third party, unless it's the Democrats that divide to form one. As for the GOP, I'd be much happier if the libertarian wing were the more dominant.
Because he falls into the category of "Celebrities are overpaid assholes who should just do their jobs and STFU...unless they say what I want to hear."
I've never understood why libertarians hang out in the GOP, given it's track record of trying to curb civil liberties and increase spending, especially over the last decade. Isn't that kind of the opposite of libertarian ideology?
Well, he was a republican mayor of a small town, I guess. Besides from that, the only thing I can think of (besides his cinema popularity) is that he's probably one of the few speakers that actually feel what they say so it'll be somewhat entertaining. These stupid conventions have (d)evolved into an evangelical church sermons, so the entirety of its contents haven't any meaning anyway.
I'm just sadistically remembering all the espoused Libertarians who pulled the lever for Bush, and created their own fucking nightmare in Obama. Yhep, Kerry would have been a knucklehead, but he wouldn't have been Obama, and after 8 years of him, the next Democrat up for it would have been Hillary, again, not Obama. Just had to swiftboat Kerry though, huh? Not..not so good on the long-term strategery, huh, fellas? *Moves your mouths like a puppet* (Whimper voice) Nooo, we're not, Dicky! Thaat's right, you're not. Not at all.
