Hey Maud, there's a new horror movie coming out that's sure to scare the piss outta you! The antagonist is scarier than Freddy, Jason and Michael Meyers combined!!! [YT="Lincoln"]qiSAbAuLhqs[/YT]
Looking forward to it, even if Speilberg piles the syrup on a bit too thick, as he is wont to. Lincoln was a true great.
On the one hand, I hate mindlessly patriotic movies. On the other hand, I hear Spielberg digitally replaces the gun that kills Lincoln with a walkie talkie in a reverse double troll on Muad Dib.
Seeing as he was the president who allowed European socialists to enter the US government and military, and handsomely rewarded them with high rank, government offices, and free land via the Homestead Act, I'm sure you do think he was a true great.
And just think, that slick, conniving, lying, manipulating politician held this country together. Ah, Confederate apologism - it never gets old, or seems to go away, no matter how many decades pass.
Can't wait to see it and if cranks like Thomas DiLorenzo don't like it then that's all the more reason to want to see it more.
Well, without going as far as MD goes on this subject (or even in the same hemisphere) - it WOULD be refreshing (and highly unlikely) if what looks like an otherwise compelling film would not in the direction of the reality that the North did not initially go to war to end slavery but only came around to that reasoning later. I'm not holding my breath on that.
So the Gilded Age wasn't a time of plutocrats and laissez-faire capitalism? Or did Lincoln have a time machine to plant the seeds of women's rights and trust-busting?
