Wonder how the fine is levied. Do they take it out of your pay check or do they write up something like a traffic ticket and you have so many days to pay it before the boys show up at the house after work? :flow:

Not to get all "journalist" on a good outrage thread, but...

Is there any proof this is true? Corroboration from other union members? Scans of garnished paychecks?

    Certainly outrageous, if true.

However, that's not exactly a lot of context to go on, and yeah, I'd want some form of corroboration. As far as we know that's Herman Cain's cousin.

Who mentioned Republicans? Wasn't me. Maybe you're thinking of visionrazer.

No, I'm just a guy who likes to know that things actually happened before I get upset about them.

I wouldn't rule it out -- unions in Massachusetts are somewhat notorious for shenanigans. But as others have suggested, this isn't exactly actual evidence. I won't get all drooly and delirious about this the way visionrazer did until there's some verification (which should be easy enough to produce).

Weird, I just got a robot call for Elizabeth Warren from the steel union.

Hey, Massholes, I don't vote in Masshole elections, take me off your list.

Er, yeah it is. It may not hold up in court, it's certainly not proof, and (as Demiurge pointed out) it might turn out to be misleading, but it's evidence.

Nah. I just find it interesting that the guy who claims he was fined can't remember whether it was $150 or $250.

You'd think that would stick in his mind.

If corroborated, then this is what I would like to see. Duyring the dext presidential debate, one of the candidates address these type of situations. That also include the rant by the CEO saying that if Obama were reelected he would get out of dodge and the employees were on their own. When they address it I would like the candidate, either one, rail and rant against this type of coercion and explicitly state that who ever does this is an ass.

While we're at it I'd also like my lottery ticket and warp drive.

Yes, damn him for not going on hearsay and conjecture from an interview involving a man who is not even sure what the penalty is and offers no proof of his union involvement or even his identity.

That being said, if this is true, then it's slimy as all hell and the leaders of these unions need to be kicked out/punished for any violations of the law.

Sounds just like the coal mine operator who made all his employees take an unpaid day off down in one of the border states to attend a Romney rally, or the real estate developer who sent an e-mail to all his employees telling them they were putting their jobs at risk if they voted for Obama because if Obama won, he'd fire them, take his money and go to the Caribbean.

The political climate in the age of Citizens United is warped beyond belief.

If true, this, along with every other act of coercion, is bullshit and needs to addressed, just as frontline posted. Like him, I don't see it being addressed by anyone anytime soon, since both parties engage in it.

I do not doubt that some Unions are very capable of underhanded shenanigans like this...and this may in fact, be true.

But, you really do need some sort of solid evidence it's going on aside from just one guy's say so.

I doubt they would be stupid enough to make the fine obvious...this can't be legal after all. It's probably going to be very difficult to prove. Although, just other members of the Union stepping forward to corroborate the story would be a beginning.
