I'm sure that with some fava beans and a nice chianti, it would be delicious.

Not morning sickness but hyperemesis gravidarum, and yes, it really is a pretty serious complication of pregnancy.

Most of us couldn't care less. I have it on good authority that both Hood and Dan however are camped outside the hospital with the waiting media scrum.

On a sidenote, the world has changed. This baby will now be 3rd inline for the thrown regardless of gender, & if it wants it will be allowed to marry a catholic! :bergman:

In that case, the media is being even more irresponsible than usual. Thousands of women with ordinary morning sickness will now be stressing out and running to the doctor unnecessarily.

Or, alternatively, thousands of women with hyperemesis gravidarum who thought they just had a "bad" case of morning sickness will now be educated and motivated to run to the doctor, whereas previously they might not have until it was severe.

Except that pregnant women who have health coverage routinely see their Ob/gyn every six weeks during the course of the pregnancy.

I won't care about it before or after it's born, unless it grows up to have a rack like Keeley Hazell and then shows that rack to Sun photographers.

Okay, even then I still won't care about it, but at least I'll find an enjoyable quality to its existence.

I just hope the baby is born healthy, and that Will and Kate love their child and nurture it. Of course, I wish that for every couple who wants, or is expecting, a baby.

So what? Is it impossible that hyperemesis gravidarum might erupt in between those visits?

What's your goal here? To tell people to ignore life threatening conditions? I see nothing good from your stance here.

Impossible? Of course not. But if you can calm yourself for a moment, let's look at some facts.

Generally speaking, up to 50% of pregnant women experience morning sickness.

Approximately 0.03-2% of pregnant women can experience hyperemesis gravidarum.

IOW, it's rare. And, again, women with health insurance who see their Ob/gyns every six weeks (more often if it's a high-risk pregnancy) are told to report any unusual symptoms. The five considered most severe are bleeding, cramping, fluid leakage, severe headache or visual changes, and severe vomiting.

Garden variety morning sickness tends to be a brief spell of nausea and the whoopsies once or twice before breakfast. Might be daily, might be occasional, almost always clears up by afternoon, and usually ends at the start of the second trimester.

A bit different from severe, persistent vomiting that results in dehydration and weight loss, wouldn't you say?

My "goal" was what I posted - to point out that those media sources characterizing this as "morning sickness" are being misleading, either out of ignorance or just to sell papers/boost ratings, and that this is likely to cause unnecessary panic.

It's not as if the media don't have a history of misunderstanding, misinterpreting, short-handing, or downright mangling medical and scientific information.

Funnily enough, "the media sucks" is usually a recurring theme in the RR. Not this time, eh?

Judging an individual (me) by the stereotype associated with a group (the RR) is not consistent with the San Francisco Democratic Progressive Confession of Faith of 1967.

Does that apply only to Democrats, or only to people living in San Francisco in 1967? :P

Fair question, after all I am not from London, nor was I alive in 1689, but I subscribe to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, but I AM a Baptist...

Much as I'd love that, Scotland is a shitkicking hick state on steroids when it comes to being propped up by the productive parts of the country. They'll never leave the English teat.

I love how RD's long standing opposition to capital punishment counts for nothing, just suddenly goes out the window, when it comes to the British royal family.

Whose members have done... well, nothing really, to warrant death. Even by the standards of Texans.

Nothing says bitter Irish republican bigot quite like that.

No possibility that his quoting Lewis Carroll meant that he was joking, huh? Not enough smilies, apparently.
