    The Marines got McDonald's.

An odd policy indeed. Just what variety of catastrophe would ensue if the channel were allowed on Army bases?

Good call, boycotts are all the rage these days.

Remember when they asked reporters to be on the lookout for Iraqi insurgents who were pleased that Obama had won instead of McCain so that they could report it? Stuff like that.

Okay, this isn't all Army bases, just this one (as far as I know). There wouldn't be a catastrophe because some places on this post have been showing it, they just can't anymore.

And the quality of the news channel is not the issue. The whole ban came about because certain people are offended by Fox because said people perceive Fox as being racist/right wing/conservative. Said people historically vote Democrat above the 90 percent level. The Army doesn't want to be perceived as being racist, so they can't show Fox. That's the bottom line.

Rotate the shows. Equal time for all the shitty news coverage.

Or take out the TVs. For fuck's sake, can people not be without a screen to stare at for any short length of time, even shopping?

Proactively, selectively seeking news stories is something that every organization does.

Of course, by necessity. Does that mean that all types of story selection are equally credible?

Was there a press release issued, or written guideline? How do you know that this is policy?

Oldfella sounds like a closet racist.

In a way, Obama is his boss. Why would a company broadcast negative stuff about the boss to its employees??

Negative, just someone who thinks equal treatment is fine, preferential treatment not so much. Granted, this is harmless compared to quotas, hiring preferences and so forth, but it still gets on one's nerves.

You said it yourself in the OP:

"Almost all the employees and about half of the patrons are minorities."

So since the employees have to be subjected to having the TV on for their entire workday, what you call "preferential treatment" is actually "majority rule."

Yanno, democracy in action. You're just annoyed because in this instance you're not the majority. Now you know - in a very small way - how that feels.

    Exactly. It's a morale issue.

I doubt the televisions were set to MSNBC when Bush was commander-in-chief.

I never thought about it like that. It's all about the numbers! If minorities are the majority, it's their call as to what can be shown. I choose to work here, and being retired military it's not like I shouldn't have seen this coming, with all the Consideration Of Others training and Equal Opportunity classes, etc. etc.

Nobody makes me patronize these places - I'll eat lunch at my desk (generally do anyway) and view :foxnews:
and spend my money at Walmart versus the PX.

I doubt too many televisions are set to MSNBC anywhere.

And all the rest of us are Obama's boss, which means that we're his boss -- Obama is just middle management. And pretty typical to middle management form, at that.

Sucks to have to afford everyone else the same rights the Endangered Straight White Male has enjoyed throughout history, doesn't it?

And never mock anyone else who boycotts anything again. Go get 'em, tiger!

To say what I said. That's what I'm saying, is that I said what I said. You've gotten too used to garamet, who never, ever says what she says.

I think you are looking too hard for political correctness.

More likely your Post doesn't watch Fox b/c Fox sucks.

I wish Bragg and Lewis had that policy. :/

It was the same when I was in the service. You'd go into the chow hall and Fox would be on 9 out 10 TVs with the 10th being on CNN.
