Not a bizarre thought if you consider that he can't return to defend himself. His brain functions have ceased. He's no longer a verbal threat to you. Pretty simple to comprehend.
Yep, this should have gone in the Green Room with a Red Room thread linking to it, and immediately stickied and locked.
Probably true Dicky, considering that respect seems to be missing from some people's vocabulary. Perhaps that will work for the next passer.
None of the British on here have been "dancing on the grave of Sokar". I suspect you have not read this thread. As for Iranians being uncouth, that couldn't be more far from the truth. They are for more concerned with social manners than westerners. But I'm not surprised you don't know that.
The way I see it, the "evil" commited by Sokar was trolling on WF and hurting the feelings of a few sensitive souls who could switch off their computer and stop coming back for more. In contrast his method of exit from this world invloved many months of pain and suffering for him and his family. To mem it's about perspective. Hardly Pol Pot was he?
As for the discussion of why Tamar posted it in here, I have to say that having read some of the opinions it does seem highly suspicious, and frankly self righteous of her to make her usual round of excuses to try and avoid admitted to the drama addiction she longs for. BUT, how could it possibly anything other than hypocritical to bring it up in this thread and then bang on about it when another thread in the Red Room, or the Help Desk, could've been started to debate it, that way keeping it away from this one? Much as I said before in response to Liet's take on Sokar's behaviour, I'm really not seeing the moral hugh ground with regards to Tamar, since you're all carrying on this debate in the memorial thread instead of another one. Lets face it, another Red Room thread on the topic would've likely got as many posts. People here are drama whores after all.
Carol is a rather common for men of an older generation around here. I persoanlly didn't think Courtney was that unusual.
Yep. And my original quote was butchered to hell, which I just now notice. No, death doesn't make Sokar some saint, but I've had someone in my family die from pancreatic cancer. It'shorrible for those on the sidelines. It's horrible for those with it. If you've ever wished for him to die a horrible death...well, congradu-fuckin'-lations, it's the next best thing to dying in a fire. EDIT: to El Chup's post 188
I had an uncle named Carol and a couple of other men of that generation in my hometown were named Carrol. This Courtney has been nailing Angela Bassett since the late 90s.
Marion is another name that sees both sides of the aisle. Now being named Sue is another thing entirely.
I had disagreements with him but I never wanted him to actually die. Man, why did you have to go and do a thing like that, Sokar? I hope I'm wrong and there is an after life, dude.
Did someone call Sokar evil? I can't say I recall that. Internet trolls generally don't rate quite that level of vehemence. And speaking of hyperbole, if Pol Pot was posting in our midst I think my response of learning of his death would be more like a sincere 'THANK GOD ROT IN HELL YOU TWISTED FUCK' than 'he's was an asshole and I don't respect him, but sorry that he and his family had to go through that.' But then, my perspective on cancer and what it means may be very different than yours.
No one wanted him to die. The people Sokar most often attacked were generally the ones that were the gentlest souls on the board.
Sokar wasn't a person. Sokar was a character. Courtney was a person that posted here as Sokar to let off steam. Now Courtney is dead and Sokar is never coming back. It's not difficult to mourn Courtney as a person without diminishing anything Sokar ever did, but apparently you can't separate the two in your mind. That makes me sad. I originally wrote more, but I realized I could condense it down to this: Liet, you're a real piece of shit. There can be no better legacy for the Sokar character than how deeply you're still butthurt over his actions, even after he's gone.
Yeah, all of the memorial threads that I could find had been started in the Green Room. Hell, even the Iraq and Afghanistan memorial threads were in there. There was even a stickied thread by Lanz a few years back saying that if you couldn't keep it civil, take it to the Red Room. Well, here we are in the Red Room...
So, if Tamar had started it in the Green Room or other room...would we still not have a bunch of troll Sokar's death threads in the Red Room? Sure, the green room would have been "clean" but that wouldn't be the end of the topic.
We would still have those, but there wouldn't be so much in the 'official' memorial thread. That's the point.
Liet, fuck no. TKO, Actormike, Rick, Garamet, more than most others here - they aren't A type personalities that attempt to spray their piss to mark their territory, and they certainly don't advocate violence. Like most bullies, Sokar tended to pick on those he felt isolated, in this case those with unpopular views, or who he percieved as weak in some way. In general that wasn't the case, but the internet warriorz tended to back attacks against those posters, and that stroked his ego, which is what all this was about.
Quoting and adding: Liet, if anyone should have been set to max red based on their attitude on Courtney's death, it's you. I've done the courtesy and taken that that hit for you when the suggestion was done in jest, so do me the favor and just shut the fuck up about Sokar from this point on, because really, you could have and should have taken Anc's far more tactful position about this.
Dude if there is someone who needs to pull their head out of their fucking shitty ass and take a breath of oxygen to feed their brain cells it's YOU.
