Everyone you've listed gave as good as they got so that kind of invalidates this point. Don't try to sell us with your attitude, most of us know better. I can understand TKO's response to a degree due to her youth, the others, not so much. They participated waste deep and even perpetuated it all. Warriorz indeed.
Really, Actormike and Rick went around trying to drive people off the board through their L33T rep warriorz skills? Must have missed that. Garamet at best trolls subtly, and against ideas, not people's personal lives. NONE of them behaved in the manner that Sokar did when he was an active poster. All of them, even when I vociferously disagreed with their positions, like I often did with Garamet or Rick, didn't resort to endless flames and hounding of other posters. Did any of them carry a hit list in their sig of the posters they drove off? Of course not. If you think otherwise, all you care about is the fact he cloaked himself in positions you favored, not about what he said and how he said it.
I agree with this. So it's in that context that i say this, both as a reflection of the expressed views so far i agree with, and those of my own. I really really REALLY hate that Courtney is dead. I'm actually a bit chipper that Sokar is dead. But not enough so that I would even hint that the cost of the patter was worth paying the former. To me, the "Death of Sokar" is easy to process, because in many ways it's like the "Death of Shep" (andby whatever handle that person posted elsewhere) When I was getting out of that particular box, one of the things I did was visit some other forums I used to frequent and look at some of my old posts (to see what "Shep" had said about, well, people like me) - I was horrifed at the attitude displayed. No, I was never the sort of bully/trol that Sokar and others revel in being, but I was a self-righteous, condescending, know-it-all with an overabundance of snark. I really didn't like that guy. I'm glad he's dead. Yall are free to make your own judgements about the price paid for him to die. The point in all this being - I, more than most, grasp the concept of "I mourn Courtney and i dance on Sokar's grave"
Liet? no. He's a bare-fisted fighter and he asks nor deserves no quarter. Actormike otoh has done NOTHING that gets in the same time-zone with the grief he took...and they are far from the only two targets. I will say that, speaking just for myself, I'm pretty shocked he never painted a huge target on my back....so when i express my distaste for Sokar it's on behalf of others, not myself. Hell, I'm even uncomfortable with the level of derision yall throw at Dayton and apostle so...yeah.
So he harrassed people on the internet. Does that really make him so vile? We're all big boys and big girls here. I'm sure we can all handle some mean-spirited words on the screen. It's no reason to cheer on the man's death. Although I had no problems with Sokar, I didn't care much for his attacks on other posters or his campaigns to drive other posters off the board. That's certainly not my preferred style of posting. But at the end of the day, does all that really matter? I'm sorry he is dead and I'm sorry that he had to go out like that. If you don't feel the same way and want to heap scorn on him, go ahead. Freedom of speech and all that. But it doesn't make you any better than he was. Personally, I like to stick with that old saying: If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.
Have you read the thread? You do realize that only person has expressed joy in the actual person's death right? The rest of us have just pointed out that 'Sokar' as a poster on WF was a total asshat, who reveled in being an asshat, and who will not be missed. Except of course by those who shared his ideology.
Did you read the thread? The OP says to show respect or don't respond. You'd have a hard time arguing that negative observations, even if they fall short of rejoicing at his death, fit the bill.
I'm not going to lie and pretend I'm sad the poster is gone, sorry. And when asked to explain myself I will.
It was posted in the Red Room. Sokar would be the last person who would have wanted a Red Room thread to remain respectful.
Are you serial? He went after anybody on the political left. Being an anti-Bush, libertarian-minded independent, he went after me on more than one occasion. Sokar could rip you a new one, but he could do it with substance and style. Even when I had some dustups and disagreements with him, I respected him. He could make his point. You might not like it. He might not like yours, but he could go toe-to-toe with some of the best leftists and progressives on the board. Was he a troll? Yes, and one of the very best.
Careful, she may fly off the handle on you. Just like anyone else who makes any negative remark towards her. She gets like that.
He was a one trick pony, and not very good even at that one. Flaming certain posters with the same insult a few hundred times is not trolling, it's far too crude for that label.
I would bet my left testicle that if this thread were made in the Green Room, most of the retards here would still find a way to troll the shit out of it, just to get even with him hurting their sensitive little pussies and pointing out their stupidity. They have never been able to control themselves, and his posts attract them like flies to shit. If there's a heaven, Sokar's probably looking down and laughing his ass off right now.
Even if you never agreed with Sokar, you have to admire his staying true to himself to the end. He didn't allow himself to be defined by his illness. His grace in that regard reminds me of a line from Macbeth, spoken about a condemned man who faced his execution bravely:
Well we are a family, right? Don't funerals and such bring vultures out of the woodwork? Well, generally if money is involved anyway. You know, I think it would be cool to fake your death, just to see how people react. Anyone who acts like a dick gets written out of your will.
One would have thought that after losing my father to cancer I would be a bit more sympathetic. Nope. Sokar, this board is a better place now, at least after the shit-storm settles down. I've been online for nearly 20 years now, and in all that time there has only been 2, maybe 3 people I have actually hated. This guy was one of them.
