A friend just drove through Arkansas, her report:

Can you defend your state's honor? Or is she pretty much spot on with this?

Anyone who says that about any state simply didn't see much of it, and is thus displaying their ignorance. Every state, without exception, has its boring parts but also has its beautiful and interesting parts.

Don't believe me? Do a Google image search for "beautiful Arkansas" and check it out.

"The U.S. Interstate system: boring as shit and full of trucks" would probably be more accurate.

I've been all over, and the fact is that the interstate goes through the ugly spots of Arkansas. No one ever says "Hey, let's build a major thoroughfare through the most rugged and beautiful areas where no one lives and construction will cost 100x what it will cost along the boring route!"

Heber Springs, Mountain Home, etc., are all far off the beaten path.

Arkansas has some of the nation's best outdoor and hunting experiences. Period.

According to the wise words of Dayton "You don't have to go there to learn anything, can read about it.".

So I will take what I read in the OP's statement as true. I have a link here.

I stand corrected, as I would fuck the inbreeding out of this girl.

    Home sick today.

First off, excitement is largely a matter of knowing what to look for and where to find it. That goes for any place.

Second off, I find it difficult to believe you have female friends (or males ones for that matter).

If it keeps Flow from visiting, I'll take that description. Seriously, though, I've actually been to Arkansas, yet have no memory the place. I am forced to go with Dayton's experience by reading method. Can anybody who lives there recommend some good Arkansas writings? I got a flippant answer from Dayton, but maybe somebody else has some suggestions?

Hemingway was divorced three times and committed suicide.

Not exactly a good testament to his ability to find happiness or anything else.

I've seen his Key West home (bought with Arkansas largesse). I'd be pretty happy with that property.

No doubt he was one hell of a writer. At least Santiago might agree.

That said I assume most people here know that Northwest Arkansas is one of the most concentrated areas of wealth in the United States.

At one time it ranked second only behind a portion of New York City.

I'll also point out that Governing magazine ranked the current Arkansas governor Mike Beebe (Democrat) as one of the ten best public officials in the entire United States in 2012

Even though he is a Democrat I'll be sad to see him term limited out next year.

When I drove through Arkansas, it was down I-540 and US 71. I-540 goes through some fairly scenic areas

Arkansas has the biggest variety (different species) of venomous snakes!
Here's why: the range of Western snakes and Eastern snakes overlaps here. Thus, they get the best of both worlds.

BTW I like snakes, and refuse to wear "snake proof" boots in the outdoors here in Georgia, even around water (water moccasins lair).

Which kind of proves Dayton's point: If you could find happiness where he didn't, then he wasn't exactly a good reference on where and how to find happiness.

Hence Dayton mentioning that northwest Arkansas has one of the highest concentrations of wealth in the country. Had a friend that met a girl online up there. He's a bit of a snob, and thought he was heading up into a bunch of trailer houses. It was amusing to hear his shock when he found seven figure homes and upscale retailers.

I always picture Arkansas as a bit like a rotten apple. Pleasant enough on the outside, but when you look closer there's a disgusting maggot living inside ruining it for everyone else.
