The 50th Anniversay Dr. Who Special "The Day of the Doctor" premiers this Saturday. And while most of us already know that Matt Smith and David Tennant will be appearing in the episode along with John Hurt as the War Doctor, it was just announced that there will also be a special guest appearance. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!! I'm already looking forward to this episode, but this is just icing on the cake.
Can we make this the official 50th anniversary thread? (Since I'm sure more will pop up?) Also, check out the home page of google today for a great time-waster.
I read that and I sez to myself "Self! This is great news!!!" Self sez to me: "You idiot, why do you care. it doesn't come on any channel you get anyway." Si I sez to myself "but there are...other...sources..." And self sez "...none of which you have ever found the first episode of Dr. Who on, right?" I sez "Well...yeah... but it must be out there somewhere." Self is a bit cynical but often correct, nonetheless.
Were you looking for "An Unearthly Child" or "Rose"? Plus...American Google has the Who game now, too.
well hell, now they have a doctor Who page on my preferred source...although "The Name of the Doctor" still isn't up. Must just have been an issue going on when I searched before. No idea if TDotD will be treated as a regular episode and make the list or not though... (oh, and I watched "Rose" and "The Bells of St. John" and "The Parting of the Ways" and about half of the first ep of Torchwood (before Flash crashed...)
I thought it was amazing. The Doctor was the Doctor . . . he fixed it. And the "curator" brought a tear to my eye.
Earlier in the day i watched the first Tennant episode...loved that moment when Cassandra first saw herself as Rose and said "Oh my god! I'm....chav!" A thousand and one gratitudes for the link - i shall immediately indulge!
Oh, and i really like this "Claire" - as well as any companion I can remember... Edit: Clara...right.
Wondering what happened to the classic Doctors that didn't make it into the special? http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01m3kfy
...which makes it seem likely that they're upholding the 12 incarnations rule, and will make it a plot point to get around it. Otherwise, there would be no reason to say "*all* 13" in the middle of their lives.
THIRTEEN, BITCHES!!! I called it earlier this week in Dickynoo's thread. Peter Capaldi is the thirteenth Doctor. It's official. It's canon. It was on screen. Deal with it, nerds. Bow before my awesome geekness.
Saw it with the kids and thought it was great. Seeing Curator my daughter and I nearly jumped out of our skins. Awesome resolution to past issues and great set up for future seasons with a unifying theme. The ending scene was great too.
Point I'm wrapping my head around. If Hurt regenerated immediately after these events, as was shown, then Eccleston was The Doctor for 380+ years before he met Rose.
I believe most of the additional 400 years mentioned belonged to Smith. At least 200 of them fell between the beginning and end of Season 6. Any extra time Eccleston would have had probably would have fallen between his first and second invitations to Rose.
Anyone else see it in the cinema? There were a nice few minutes beforehand with Strax about punishments for mobile phone use, and some Ten/Eleven back and forth about the 3d aspect. As for the episode itself, OH MY GOD SO GOOD. Hurt was amazing, loved the constant wtf reactions he had to Ten and Eleven. Came out of the cinema giddy, it's just a shame they couldn't get Eccleston properly involved, in the moment he appeared onscreen I thought they were going to pull a surprise on us but then just a stock shot. That's not Moffats fault though. About the only thing I would have liked to see would be to have slightly expanded on the scene where all the Doctors appeared to pull off the scheme to hide Gallifrey. Given they had the First Doctors control room built there was a great opportunity for a shot showing the First Doctor (even if just from behind) picking up an envelope addressed to him off his Console while there is the line with the Doctor telling Gallifrey that he's had a long to get ready for this. Overall though a fantastic episode, a great celebration of 50 years.
Is that Christmas clip real? I'm torn between hoping for a resolution to the Silence plot, and thinking it can't be salvaged.
