Maybe syfy would have better shows if they stopped making shows for stereotypical manchildren and started making shows for adults.

As long as they have wrestling and "Sharknado," no.

Well, Helix, while shot extremely well, is written pretty badly.
Continuum, on the other hand, is genius. As was Alphas.
And of course Warehouse 13 and Eureka were both good-natured gems.
A lot of their series are pretty good. It's just that they're trapped in a great morass of bad movies, stupid reality shows, and wrestling.

I think that's a copyright thing. They couldn't trademark SciFi.

So as silly as it sounds, I'll give them a pass on that one.

Yeah, I know their reason for doing it. Doesn't make it any less stupid. They couldn't trademark "SciFi" but they could very likely have trademarked "SciFi Channel" or come up with something a little less dumb than "SyFy," which looks like it should be pronounced "Sihfee."

Well, to their defense... they didn't take SHARKNADO seriously either. The buzz it created was priceless, however. Clever marketing if you ask me.

A few good genre shows with no police/crime elements would be good. A good space show is long overdue /geek mode

They specifically gave the reason for the name change as being that they wouldn't be limited to just sci-fi, not that that had really been stopping them before the name change or anything. :garamet: Actually it seems to me that the woman who took over the SciFi Channel disliked sci-fi, and so wanted the change.

That would be Bonnie Hammer...aka Cobra Commander.

No, I don't know how she got that name.

Yes, Bonnie Hammer . . . the woman who turned the SciFi Channel into Spike.

Plus, didn't Spike launch itself on TNG marathons and then go on to buy the rights to air DS9 and VOY? Seems to me Spike actually has an appreciation for sci-fi.

And no primary focus or "theme."

Still a bit of a sore spot. SciFi could have gotten all those shows, but they were busy spending money on wrasslin' and that douchebag John Edward.

I saw a movie Saturday night on Scyfy called Skyline. Kinda..interesting and creepy about aliens who attack L.A. and steal human bodies and use them for themselves. Scottie Thompson played in it, as well as Brittany Daniel. Pretty good..but scary.

Yeah, Skyline came out around the same time as Battle Los Angeles. Two interesting takes on the alien invasion plot.
