The one problem with comments was it discouraged posts. People just made comments instead of actually posting their comments.

Yeah, I'd be more inclined to bring back neg rep over comments for that very reason.

I haven't used the rep yet since the change. What's the point? What could be more meaningless than "I like this."

Maybe 80% of my activity here was via rep comment. Now I just don't bother, and since I'm not loggin in to make rep comment or joke in the first place, that other 20% where I got into it enough to reply has almost certainly shrunk too.

Plus, you know, half the time people anyway just distort what you said to make an argument; that's not my brand of pedantry. But mostly I don't think it's worth posting if someone already said something that sums up my pov more or less, and the idea of just saying "i agree" makes me feel some kind of mental brain deficient.

Um, they were consistently positive, something over 95% of them, often even when I disagreed. Not sure what you think your point is dicky, but know it doesn't mean what you think it does. Which is pretty much true about most of what you're on about generally, if a matter of substance is involved.

Tend to prefer a lower profile. And it's a fine way of sending a comment or (im)personal note to a member without making a whole reply about it and crowding out real conversation, scarce though it may be when you get involved.

For one thing, the conversation by rep comment is generally not seen by the half of us who already read the post. If it's meant as a semi-private statement just to the one poster, then it's fine, but it doesn't advance the general conversation at all.

People have stopped posting since the switch anyway. Muad's gone, and most of Volpone's contributions involve whining about the way the board is run, which is the same ol' song he's been singing since Listkeeper smacked him for that TKO title thread seven seven years ago and was gonna make the most bestest board ever.

Sometimes, that's all we need for a months-old post without buymping old shit to ask a question.
