Were in that one unit 2/7 your whole enlistment or just during your combat tour? My pet peeve is in the movies when when one vet meets another (or questions that vets service in general, not necessarily combat) and asks "what outfit were you with?" :bang:

If anyone asked me that you better pack a lunch - between being assigned, attached to, transferred to, restructuring, activation and deactivation and two branches of the military, etc. it would be well over a dozen. I served with/supported three in a six month period in Iraq. 3/4 Cav treated us the best BTW.

^Really? During my dad's 11 months or so on the ground in Korea (1952 IIRC) , I think he and his gun crew were with the same unit throughout.

In the Ironbound district, at the corner of Pulaski and Delancy Streets.
It was like being in a Bowery Boys film.

I was with Alpha Company for my whole tour in Vietnam
I extended, and got out of the Army on my return.

A sergeant threw me out of her apartment once after we had sex because she lit up a cigarette and we got into an argument over the merits of smoking. I was pretty sure she was going to start throwing things at me. True story.

I'd say that counts as combat experience.

From the replies in this thread I think that there are not many with actual combat experience.

People might mock me, but I think that my experience in manhandling a lawyer and in choking a shoplifter qualify as combat. In fact I hope to be head of the armed forces. One day.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhuser Gate......

We went out a few times. She never smoked. So I don't know if it was an after-sex thing or not, but man did we get into a good argument when she lit up. She was also in great shape. Probably could have kicked my ass!

Actually she was the only company commander NOBODY could stand. All of us NCO's avoided her at all costs. She flew a Blackhawk by trade
but should have flown a broom.

You guys know this is just so he can compile a list of who has had combat experience so he can make self-righteous posts about how anyone else's opinions and posts about combat topics doesn't count. :jayzus:

Totally, no question about that. But it doesn't matter, because there are myriad reasons why his ideas can be shot down, whether or not the person arguing with him is on the list.
