My son-in-law is in The Navy, but I have no idea what a "Boatswains Mate" is. Does it have anything to do with swabbing poop decks?

I wouldn't follow Bootsmann Dayton into the Municipal Pool.

Yes, I could google it...if I had any interest in knowing what it means. Do you google everything you don't give a shit about?

It probably did a hundred years ago. Nowadays, BMs paint the sides of the ship, drive the ship while underway andother maintanance that engineering ddoesn't do.

You paint ships with BM? :soma: No wonder people get sick on those luxury cruise ships!
Anyway, I'm sure I'll hear a nautical term or two from being around my son-in-law in the future. I do know their rank structure/chain of command is kooky compared to the AF and Army.

Airforce are wannabe military types except for pilots and Army has screwy recruiting and legal standards. The Navy is not afraid to fire its CO/XO's.

Huh? All branches have screwey recruiting and legal standards. The standards change like the weather across the board.
And don't get me started on the AF being "lax". I did four years prior to The Army, and in many ways the AF is much tougher/stricter.

Baba, if a person's name described his or her job, what would yours be?

AECF was the program I was trying the navy before psych discharge at basic. It was a 2 year tech school and 4 years. Would have either been billted as a fire control tech or a electronic tech.
