The thing is, that's pretty much what everybody is saying.

Yeah. Another thing is that small town cops, and when I say "small", I mean less than two or three thousand people, are by definition big on community involvement...which is another buzz word I've been hearing a lot lately.

Do you know that you responded to my post twice?

See, there's this one, where you are in accord with what I said:

    Then there's this other one:

Where I just have no idea what idea what you're trying to say.

I've just been skimming thru, but some of the comments are just ridiculous. Police are becoming militarized, etc. I'm sure its just the stupid comments that jump out at me!

This is def not a good place for me. Honestly, I didn't know it would be so difficult. I know Boo F'n Boo. I'd rather go bash Putin! I'm right on point there- WooHoo

That I wasn't really saying anything clearly, or making a particular point.

Apologize for what? And, there's another thread, man arrested to death, so perhaps that is the more negative one.

Anecdotal evidence matters. Just to keep things in perspective there are a lot of people right now in Ferguson/Staten Island/Phoenix who could share anecdotal evidence
from their experiences with police being prejudiced. Can they back their stories up with hard evidence or statistics? I guess their claims should be
dismissed outright. Why should the nation be getting their knickers in a twist over all this alleged widespread systemic mistreatment by authorities?
    Sounds like bullshit to me.

Yeah, university cops totally aren't real cops, except they are.

Isn't that basically what he's gotten even though he killed the man?

And as far as police behaving badly and getting away with it, one need only look at Albuquerque for some good examples. Or there's that case in Pennsylvania where the state highway patrol nearly beat a mentally challenged man to death, and when he tried to tell the nurses about it at the hospital, they forced the nurses to leave and beat on him some more. Naturally nothing ever came of it.

You're probably right, and it's a moving target. The unions, the Thin Blue Line, whatever you want to call it, will frustrate any accurate picture no matter what.

It's nuanced. Something the All Cops R teh Suck crowd don't get. Especially when the only example they can come up with of How to Resist Arrest involves campus police.

But the number of Bad Cop stories proliferating in this forum (yeah, @oldfella1962, I'm looking at you), is enough to give a city kid like me the impression that there's a higher percentage of bad apples in smaller PDs.

    See? You get it. ;)

Charlotte, not so much. Knoxville, borderline. ;) Just the perspective of a kid from a small town called Brooklyn.

It's your anecdotal evidence I was citing, ya knucklehead. How many Bad Cop stories have you posted here over the years? It's your second-favorite rant after the "Not that I'm saying all black people are like this, but why do all black people -?" one. :garamet:

Um, yes. I think at least some of us might have heard of it.

I'm not sure where you got the notion that I'm anti-police, but the fact that you describe the Newtown tragedy as if it's something we might never have heard of if you hadn't told us makes me a little skeptical of your authenticity. But I'm willing to hit the Reset button if you are.

And policing a college campus is exactly the same as patrolling the streets, transit, and housing in a major metropolitan area.

Wow...who the hell would want to pretend to be part of something so awful? Why i feel the need to justify myself to you, i have no idea. Except, perhaps to show you how hurtful and ugly you are.

Here- these were made only for the police involved. Jesus, this is to much

It was the form, not the content. How would you react if someone said "I don't know if you're familiar with what happened on 9/11/2001, but..."?

There's a big difference between a prick cop and a bad (as in dangerously deadly) cop. Cops around here don't shove plungers up suspects asses and carry out contract hits for The Mafia like they do in NYC. That said they have no problem in Columbia County dragging you back to lockup for any and all infractions if the mood hits them. In Richmond County they have a much higher violent crime rate, so they pretty much stay focused on important things. Now in my county lockup all bets are off! Everyone I know who went has nothing good to say about the idiots running that place.
You have to spend a whole day tracking your impounded vehicle down because they lose track of which company took it and where it went. Dial the wrong number or get an answering machine
with your "one phone call?" Tough shit! Your family will figure out what happened eventually when they start initiating a missing person's report or buy a copy of The Jail Report at the convenience store.

Ah. So when you posted this:

    You meant what, exactly?

Again, I don't think the problem is content so much as delivery. Reread your posts before you hit the Post button and you'll be better understood.

    Welcome to my world. :discuss:

She's been arguing like that for at least the ten years I've argued with her. Just think of it as a neighborhood critter that will always poop in your yard until the end of time.
