Episode 4 is up! http://startrekcontinues.com/episodes.html Haven't watched it yet but thought I would alert fellow WFers. IMO, this is the only fan series worth a shit.
I liked it. It was nice to see a 60s TV series hero have consequences from single-episode love affairs. I loved that, after all the talking with the other women, Rayna silenced him with a smile and a gesture. The production values in Continues are 100%. Their first ep Pligrim of Eternity was awesome. Lolani, being totally original, was even better. The Mirror episode was meh.
He's also 20 years older than Shatner was during Trek. But what the heck. The new guy playing Kirk in the Phase II productions has no shoulders. The Shat is a tough act to follow.
I give the series high marks for its production values, but the writing and acting are so hopelessly amateurish that it's difficult for me to watch.
I skipped through it and it looked good but no space battles. Too bad as "Fairest of Them All" (the continuation of Mirror, Mirror) had a great orbital bombardment scene as well as the Andorians shooting at the Enterprise.
Since when it is trolling to say what you enjoy in a tv series. Unless you're going by the TrekBBS definition of trolling "Posts designed to provoke a response shall be considered trolling"
I thought the Mirror episode was great. Seemed like it fitted exactly with how they would have done it back in the 60's. They guy playing Kirk has all his mannerisms down. And the space battle was done just like how they did them on the original show. All you ever saw was the photons hitting the ship or maybe a bright flash on the enemy ship.
I was amazed in "Fairest of Them All" just how well Chuck Huber does playing "Mirror McCoy". He makes him creepy and horrendously menacing yet you can still see a glimmer of "our McCoy" in him.
Okay, just skimmed through one. They got the babe factor right, and I dig on those sleeveless uniforms!
I think Vic Minoga does a great job of channeling Kirk. Even better than Chris Pine. Oh yeah, Pine is the superior actor by far but Vic has obviously studied William Shatner's performances and does a great job of the "edging close to overacting" that was often Shatner at his best (or worst as it were).
You seriously owe it to yourself to watch the series. The production values are amazing and, in many cases, better than the original series (of course they can thank over 40 years of technological progress). The acting is half-decent and much better than you'd expect from a fan-made series. I've checked out a lot of fan series/films and none of them (even the ones made by former Trek actors) can hold a candle to Star Trek Continues. The only exception is Prelude to Axanar, which is also pretty amazing. Trust me, this is coming from a guy who generally detests fanfic or any fanmade crap.
Prelude to Axanar and for that matter Star Trek Continues are really not what people think of when they refer to "fan fiction or fan series". Most of the people involved in either of those have extensive backgrounds in the entertainment industry and can rightfully be called "professionals".
I know the guy from his anime voiceover work, where he often voice over-the-top characters. While I agree that his voice is a bit too nasally for my tastes, I can understand why he got casted in the role.
Minogna's physical impression of Shatner is pretty amazing. He nails the posture, the expression, very small mannerisms.
So far I've only watched Pilgrim of Eternity and A Piece of the Action- inspired "Kirk"-starter ad. Liked it well enough, nice to see Jimmy Doohan's kid playing the Scotty role. Sets and production design are top drawer stuff too.
