Why is this not called a terrorist attack?

I haven't heard much more about this. The Texas "cartoon contest" thing was obvious because they had manifestos and statements and whatnot. Somebody dig up this forgotten too soon case and see what's up. COME ON PEOPLE! What am I paying you for?

@Man - I might be mistaken, but IIRC he texted to a friend right before the attack: Whosoever shows enmity to a friend of mine, then I have declared war against him

This is part of the Hadith:

This is one of the most frequently quotes passages by radicals who believe they will gain Allahs favor by striking down those who wage war against his servants.

    Yep, here it is:
    http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/07/19/us-usa-tennessee-shooting-idUSKCN0PS0H120150719

So the FBI hasn't said explicitly, but there's pretty strong superficial evidence that this guy was radicalized by his trips to Jordan, specifically because the US was keeping Muslim nations from helping defeat Israel.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Chattanooga_shootings

Considering the action he took, what he quoted before the attack, the FBI finding radicalized info on from Al Qaeda on his computer, and the fact he was a 2nd generation immigrant from Palestine, I'd say its pretty frigging clear what his motive was. If the FBI hasn't revealed it at this time, its political, which is pathetic.

The impression I get is that he was pretty much your typical depressed, suicidal, kid with a chip on his shoulder, mass shooter...who just happened to be Muslim. The only thing I've read about him and his religion was that he researched religious justifications for killing.

I think the FBI concluded he acted alone - but that didn't mean he wasn't radicalized.

So no ISIS involvement, indeed he had stated ISIS was misguided.

    But:
The hadith quote he texted his friend before the attack plus his choice of targets is highly suggestive that he believed he was acting for the benefit of Islam.

Shooting unarmed folks makes him a coward in my book, military or not. :borg:

He had to know none of them would be carrying weapons. :bailey:

Maybe he didn't, if it was a suicide by cop scenario. He might have expected to be killed right away.

Maybe. Or maybe he thought everyone in the military carries, like a lot of other stupid people who don't understand how that guy killed so many people in Fort Hood.

    http://m.france24.com/en/20150821-france-several-injured-shooting-amsterdam-paris-high-speed-train

Speaking of possible terrorist attacks a 26 year old Moroccan immigrant pulled out a knife and went on a stabbing spree, stabbing three people including a French actor, on a high speed train going from Amsterdam to Paris. He was over powered by two American tourists.

There is no word as yet about what motivated him but French authorities did say he was on their watch list and was known to them.
