I don't think I've ever watched the Oscars. In general, I find awards shows extremely dull and irritating.

It's just a bunch of celebrities patting themselves on the back for how great they are.

Same reason I don't watch beauty pageants. Vapid TV programming.

They should be giving out more awards and more recognition to people who are actually making a difference out there... Scientists, philanthropists, educators, doctors, etc.

Instead we elevate movie actors, athletes, and singers to god like status.

And the 'boycott' of black actors is fucking silly. These actors and actresses are millionaires. Why don't they speak out about actual issues that are affecting the black community?

I doubt the average struggling black family gives two shits about Spike Lee. Although media does a good job of brainwashing people into thinking such things are important.

I watch the Oscars every year, because I like movies, but more importantly, because I want to see what the host is going to do. My favorite Oscars are the ones hosted by people like Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, Jon Stewart, Neil Patrick Harris, Steve Martin, I thought Seth MacFarlane did a great job (the whole Von Trapp scene had me laughing my ass off). The worst hosts, to me, were Anne Hathaway and James Franco. Not so much Anne, but James could have stood next to a cardboard box and I would have had trouble figuring out which one was the cardboard box.

Sometimes the presenters can be fun, too, as Louis C.K. was pretty funny tonight with his commententary on short documentary film makers, the category for which he was presenting. I thought tonight was pretty well done in terms of presenters and getting things moving along.

The musical performances can be good, depending upon what movie soundtrack is up for a nomination that year. This year, Lady Gaga sang a song she wrote about sexual violence taking place on college campuses, for the movie "The Hunting Ground". I adore Lady Gaga, so I had to see that if nothing else. It was also pretty cool because she was introduced by Vice President Joe Biden, who asked people to be active and intervene if they see someone being sexually assaulted in any form.

So I've seen better Oscars, but this year was still really good. I always look forward to them every year. I don't like the other award shows, though. Just the Oscars.

 It's just another industry award show. I get that the reason why people care more about this particular award show is because it involves movies they've seen and the people in them, but it's not a perspective I share beyond a very basic desire to see good work in this industry being rewarded, which I don't think is really done all that often when it comes to the Oscars anyway.

Fundamentalist Muslims are way ahead of the game! If they see a gang rape in progress they break it up and gather rocks to stone the victim!

I used to always watch the Oscars, but once I had my first kid, it just wasn't a sleep trade I was willing to make. It's probably been 15 years since I last watched them, and honestly, I think the only thing I really miss are the retrospective montages or tributes. The rest is just a big wank fest. I agree with Zor Prime, let's have a glamorous award show for cancer researchers and homeless advocates.

They do have that. It's called the Nobel Prize.

And it's just as boring and self-centred as the Oscars.

Well I didn't watch because I never watch, but I'm glad Leo won, but I think The Martian should've gotten best picture. Also, I'm sorry, I love Ennino Morricone, but the score for Hateful Eight was not that inspiring.

Thought it was cool to hear this morning that Mad Max won so many Oscars, although none of the "big ones". That was a fucking awesome movie.

Visually speaking, it should have won best picture. I hadn't even heard of Spotlight until I saw the nominees. Will probably never see it.

While I was glad to hear a sci-fi movie getting so many Oscars, ... I think The Martian was a better sci-fi movie last year than Mad Max. I did like the movie. Saw it twice. But, I've seen The Martian 4 times and would watch it again.

How is Mad Max a sci-fi movie? They fanciest weapons they have are jerry-rigged flamethrowers and old shotguns.

 You're quote something. How do you jump from whether Mad Max is sci-fi to that? You're so wrapped up in your partisan nonsense that you can't see anything else can you? Hell, I don't even want Hillary, but your foaming at the mouth is hilarious.

Spotlight was a mediocre film. I was hoping for something akin to All the President's Men, especially given that cast, but it was trying too hard to be a “based on true events” pseudo-documentary, and it failed.

It’s telling that it was given Best Picture even though none of the performers, the director, etc. won. The goal is to get people to see it, take a closer look at the priests in their communities, and “take it all the way to the Vatican.”

And, in fact, the Vatican has screened the film. What happens next is up to them.

Blade Runner is a good example of a sci-fi dystopian future.

There was one problem I had with Mad Max. There was no story. It was action car chase porn for two hours.

I was so happy Spotlight won. The entire Media should watch that movie and learn what real journalism is.

Real journalism died long ago. Bill Clinton flies to the island of underage sex slaves and the media doesn't even put it on page 17.

This is so dumb, and so off topic, and so thoroughly debunked, I should really just delete the post for the sake of your own reputation.

Bill was in my neighborhood today, interestingly enough. He was holding a Clinton sign at one of the polling places, though sadly not mine. Some friends got to meet him, but I missed out for being on the wrong side of an arbitrary line on the map. :(

Next time bring some underage girls and Bill will come to you!

And no, the story wasn't debunked. Bill flew on Epstein's personal jet to Epstein's orgy island. Of course the Clinton's used their vast team of legal attack dogs to silence the underage sex slaves, as they always do.

Sigh. Except that the island isn't Epstein's, Clinton flew there for an International conference, and he was one of many dignitaries on the jet. So, basically, you are lying on all the details, taking a legitimate activity, and using innuendo to suggest other things. You've been smacked down hard on this every time you bring it up. It was one of the early reasons that everybody figured out that you are a liar. Guess what, we still know that. And yes, I know you will now lie with the claim that nobody has ever proven you've lied, but that lie also doesn't fly.

So why was one of the sex slaves saying she was with Bill? Is she lying just like all the other of dozens and dozens of women are lying?

Does Bill Clinton have more accusers than Bill Cosby? Who's been keeping score?

Did the sex slave end up retracting her claim?
