Y'all, IMO it was GOOD. Both independently and when compared against the original. The humor and the pathos felt just right, and had the requisite smatter if movie-style action. The guy playing rigs isn't a Mel Gibson clone, they made him a Texan, but he very neatly captures the vibe of Martin Riggs in the films. Damon Wayons is less ideally cast, sometimes you see him when you should be seeing Murtaugh, but at other times he's worthy of the part. The had a tough job here and I say they pulled it off. At least for one episode. I immediately began to speculate about what other movies of this sort were ripe to be re-imagined if other networks decide to clone the idea. (we could also possibly discuss older TV shows that might work - if McGyver follows the path of Hawaii 5-0, it's certain that execs will be scrambling for other older shows to re-boot)
someone started another thread about a Magnum reboot I know that once before they tried and failed to get a Rockford reboot on the air but they fucked up and went the pretty boy route. Give the role to Nathan Fillion and evoke the same cynical tired Jim Rockford that James Garner played and it would be fine. I wonder if someone couldn't make a 48 Hours reboot as the most obvious way to clone this one? Adam Baldwin guested on Castle as a guy who could easily be Nolte's character with a couple of tweeks if the Reggie Hammond part was well cast and you explained what forced them together after he got out of prison. IIRC, there was some noise about doing Greatest American Hero a while back I'd love to see someone do justice to the concept and humor of Moonlighting without all the production headaches that messed up the first one, but i don't see how you'd ever get that magic back. I know there's a constant complaint that Hollywood seems unwiling to ignore a chance to redo an old idea rather than commission something more creative but, if the original was actually a good concept, I don't mind. Speaking of... There's a new Lost in Space in the works, some of the casting has already begun. Do with that fact what you will.
I think an updated Mork and Mindy could world, I can't think of any show other than South Park that manages to be cutting, satirical and relatable, and our societies viewed from an alien perspective could see am actual improvement on the original. Just so long as skewers everyone rather than being a blunt instrument against the right/left.
I think the concept of Mork and Mindy--an alien observing and commenting on humanity--would work, but it can't actually be Mork. There was only one Mork. And he's gone.
they did something similar a couple of years ago with "The Neighbors" which, If I ever watched sitcoms, I'd have been a big fan of and pissed that it didn't last.
This show is on Hulu and even though I'm sick of cop shows, well, the Lethal Weapon movies are one of my favorite cop genre movies. So far they did a good job and they captured Riggs' character pretty well, though I miss the Aussie accent.
I've only seen the first two episodes so far. I kind of like them when I'm watching, but they aren't sticking with me yet, and since Arrow has started for the season last week, I'll watching Lethal Weapon via the cable-TV on demand set up.
Just watched to last two episodes today, & the show is really growing on me. They're taking their time with Martin & Roger's partnership/friendship, and spending more time on the rest of the squad early on.
