https://www.theguardian.com/comment...as-inadequate-but-america-will-miss-him-video This (-3 min. video) basically reflects my view. However much he was a class act, he ultimately lacked the courage of his convictions. But a lot more Americans are going to miss him than currently think so.
My dear Wats.. I mean, Dayton, everything that lies in the freaking future remains to be seen. Sheesh. But as Anna says ... people look at Donald, then at Obama, and think: Man, do I have bad case of Buyer's Remorse or what!
Looking at him from a relative position back to Ronnie Ray gun I would put Obama on the top even above Clinton. I happen to feel part of Clinton's greatness was he was lucky to be the president during the tech boom. I think Obama was handed a terrible situation and made it better. I am not thrilled with how Obama has caved to the right for compromise they never said they were willing to do. They always told him they were going to fuck him every way possible and never failed to do so. I think it is a sign of what might have been that he was able to get some things over on them. Every time him, and the democrats, gave their victory to the defeated republicans because they wanted the republicans to come around made me sick. Seeing Obama's present actions makes me realise he could have done so much more. I do not know whether or not his weakness was because he wanted to do more and thought the republicans would come around, or if it was just a show for the left and him and the dems were really right wing establishment all along. After seeing trump take the deplorables out of the mix I see the democrat establishment is clearly right wing centrists. Obama went along with them way too much and still is not bucking that system enough to make me feel he was ever a progressive. My disappointment in what could have been with Obama aside I think he did pull up our economy. He did stay out of the way of social advancement. He did talk a lot about the environment and did a lot more than any other to help it along while trying to give oil companies some new pipelines behind closed doors. He did get Obama care even though it really is not much when you consider where we should and need to be. I won't give him any credit on our middle east warfront because he has been a record making warhead and the area is worse than it has ever been. He did get the Iran deal which I do think is a huge accomplishment even if trump and company are about to destroy it. I do have to say 8 years of racist white meltdown was awesome. He may have stopped at the front line of the enemy and gave them almost everything they wanted, but it did piss them off so much to have to have a black man hand it to them. I would go for a third term just for the whining alone. I think he could have been so much better with a Samuel Jackson backbone, but we will never know.
Obama was always a centralist who sought middle of the road solutions first (see also his views on gay marriage in 2008). He's come under fire from black leaders for not doing enough for us; but like it or not, he's not the President of Black America and Our Interests Only. Trying to reach across the aisle burned him more often than not but that's what leaders in Congress need to strive for--compromise.
8 years of racist meltdown? Really? Everyone I know didn't like Obama because he's a liberal - you can put words in conservative's mouths all you want but I am knee-deep in them, and him being 1/2 black (people seem to forget that) wasn't the issue.
I'm going to miss him. He has not only been a man of class, patience, and grace, but his efforts to help the uninsured will be remembered the most by me. I was on a fast track for a heart attack and stroke, but the ACA made it possible for me to get medical treatment, and my numbers look far better now. Of course, if I lose my coverage and there's nothing of equal value to take its place, I will be unable to purchase the diabetes medications I need to live.
You can both go fuck off with that Sokar bollocks right now. Biracial kids get twice as much shit as many minorities for not fitting into a neat little box. Ask @Captain X
And @Captain X has expressed several time his dislike of race baters who push the constant narrative that white people suck.
If our country's so-called "Christians" and "family values" advocates actually believe what they claim to believe, they'll remember fondly when we had a president who's only been married once, never been accused of cheating on his wife, and raised two smart and well-spoken daughters in a loving, stable family, instead of a serial womanizer who's been married three times and brags about grabbing women's genitals without their consent and using his position of power to ogle underage girls while they're changing. Of course, that would require them to NOT engage in raging insincerity, which is a pretty unrealistic expectation for the religious right.
Defensive much? The post you are quoting didn't say that all his opponents were racist, but there was definitely a racist slant to some of his opponents and watching their reactions over the past 8 years has been great.
You're just so sad, you don't get it. After pro-growth policies, Trump's most attractive feature to me is the entertainment value and keyboard crying. But you got one thing right, anyway. Trump will be Obama's true legacy, the simple fact how bad things must've been to elevate a Trump, and then the systematic removal of the worst executive actions and legislative actions enacted during his tenure, as enabled by the solid control of the three federal branches by the people voted in to repudiate those worst actions.
Neither narrative takes from the other. Genetically, both my half brother and I are less than fifty percent of African decent. But those who have seen me in person or my profile pic know I look considerably and sufficiently black. I've had "I'm surprised a black girl likes/doesn't like ___" discussions and a couple of hood girls in middle school rag on me for not being a stereotype but no one denies that I'm black. My half brother OTOH has many black feature but is white as hell because of two Irish grandmothers and both grandfathers having pretty watered down black/brown genes. He's had girls seek him out to have babies with "good hair." He's gotten more racial slurs why white kids thrown at him by fifth grade than I ever got from Tasvir. He's had black kids trying to fight him just for existing. People always ask him what his ethnicity is and they aren't always tactful about it. His experience in the black world is entirely different from mine, and I've heard similar stories from other biracial children of all ethnicities. One need not dwell on an issue to acknowledge it's existence. I do remember X bringing it up once, but it's entirely possible I misremembered. If I did, great. I figured if he said it you'd believe him more than anyone else on the subject.
and you missed my point - the white conservatives (in my circle at least, I can't speak for people I don't know) didn't give a shit about his race. I guess they don't live up to the "deplorable" standard. A lot of people in general were making a big deal about him being the first "black president" (even if mixed) and yes it was a historical first and I get that. As for biracial kids catching hell all I can relate to is the many biracial kids my kids knew as military dependents. They knew a shit-ton of them - a large percentage of the kids of military families were mixed. If they were catching hell I've never heard of it, and you know kids - they tell about everything they see going on! Granted the military community is super aware of not saying or doing anything that would offend anyone. That shit will end your career in a minute!
And once again, you retreat into your own little box when confronted with viewpoints that don't just be with your worldview. The military is its own little world and for the most part, the real world logic doesn't apply. If those mixed children had a better lif than my half brother, my roommate who swears she's completely black despite hazel eyes and lighter skin than me, the girl in fifth grade who jumped in on picking on me before she could get picked on for being part white like she was at her previous school, ect., then that's wonderful. It's not the reality for most others.
