Right, because clearly Kennedy was referring to climate change when he wrote and gave the speech. (I did roll my eyes that the animators chose that example, though)
It's a good example, though. While JFK wasn't referring to climate change, he was referring to the rampant anti-intellectualism that would stare at the Sun while the earth warmed up, water levels began rising, and they would still deny that anything was going on. That they are so willfully stupid rather than dare cede any ground to the intellectual "elite," and thus we have destructive policies from an ignorant populace that readily endorsed and voted for Donald Trump. He is the end result of this anti-intellectual fervor. So I think it's fair that they chose that particular topic, because it won't just affect us, but generations on down.
Learning to admit mistakes and make amends might seem tiresome but it is a growing experience. Some of the mods here need to do some growing.
Well, shit, when we have threads specifically on that topic you guys ignore the threads and then lock them so, I guess, we are left with finding other ways to reach you guys. Don't like it? Maybe actually not ignoring and locking threads, you know, acting like a normal adult, might help?
OK, I agree. Let us move the GT discussion to the appropriate thread. Please unlock it so we can have that discussion there.
Exactly this. Hell, let's look at all the ass backward shit said in 2012, by candidates who for the most part had some fucks to give....look at all the derision against birth control and self-aborting rape babies crapola. That was just the tip of the iceberg.
Yep. Trump got away with so much because he skewed the perception of him by the voting public. Somehow, he managed to get them to see him as a strong leader, and he used their prejudices against them by making him appear as the only reasonable solution to all of the ills that had befallen them. Granted, that's old hat when it comes to politics, but he achieved this by essentially lying louder than the truth could compete. Fact checkers, scientists, experts, intellectuals especially, all of these people were discredited, their characters assassinated, lies made up about them because the base wanted to hear that everything was okay, instead of actually addressing our problems as a complex society. Right now, Trump is the perfect example of the anti-intellectual, and his spearheading of the anti-climate change movement is a notable example of his inability to think critically. He was exactly the type of person JFK was warning us about, as was Barry Goldwater, Isaac Asimov, and many others. This is our future because we embraced ignorance instead of knowledge. We had to be right with no effort required, rather than take the time to be correct.
Shit, what's worse is the number of people who thought they could plug their noses up at this and vote for him for "just" the Surpreme Court nomination or "just" to repeal Obamacare and improve the ACA ( ) or "just" because Hilary and her emails, yo. :/ Of all the conservatives on my page, there is exactly one who is an unequivocal fanboy for Trump. Most of the rest have gotten considerably quieter with the HAHAHA YOU LOST LOL rhetoric as they see their insurance disappear and the gutting of who even knows how many programs anymore.
Most of the conservatives on my FB page are telling me "wait, and see! Give him a chance!" which is amazing considering they were also calling Obama the Anti-Christ his first weeks in office.
Yeah, because it never occurs to you that someone might look at the evidence, as well as the history behind it, and come to a different conclusion. Nope, if you disagree you're just stupid.
Well, you know how it is, with Obama being born a Kenyan Muslim socialist who forgot to wear a flag lapel pin, and Trump settling a $25 million lawsuit, costing taxpayers $12 million a month by going to Mar-A-Lago and golfing almost every weekend, tearing down the PPACA and threatening to leave millions of uninsured in the lurch, bans Muslims from entering the United States if they're from a number of countries that had nothing to do with terrorism while leaving alone the countries that were directly involved but he had business ties with, demeans and directly insults people on Twitter, openly denies making statements in the same interviews in which he made those statements, called Hillary crooked for emails, but has an unsecured phone that he uses, and his staff use non-government email accounts, and whose administration has been found by the FBI to have ties with Russia, and is under criminal investigation. Same first month or two in office, I guess.
