The US House passed a ban on abortion after 20 weeks, a bill which the president supports. Republicans, for their small government rhetoric, prefer to legislate away women's control over their bodies. They do this despite the many medical reasons a pregnancy might need to be terminated after 20 weeks. Here's one example. But the high morals they preach appear to go by the wayside when an unwanted pregnancy strikes a Congressman personally. Not a week after voting for the ban, it came out that a Pennsylvania Congressman encouraged his mistress to terminate her pregnancy. TLDR: Republicans suck.
I hope you're right. Healthcare is a tad bit trickier than abortion and has more widespread and immediate ramifications if repealed. Plus, banning abortion has been the war cry of Republicans since as long as I can remember.
Here's the thing, we're talking about a pregnancy five months later, there's an exception for rape or incest, so I'm not exactly seeing the problem here other than it doesn't except complications.
A good start, but it doesn't go far enough. Anyone who supports abortion in the name of "women's right" over against the right of a child to live is far, far worse than a 1850's slave owner.
But once they're born, do you also believe that they have a right to food, health care, and a decent education? And that we, as a society, should do everything in our power to ensure that they get it?
You don't really expect to get anything other than "it's not my problem" as a response to that, do you? Optimist.
Get a biology degree, and invent an artificial womb. Problem solved. You can drive around in the womb-mobile rescuing fetuses. Oh, right, you'd rather be a superstitious authoritarian
Thing is, you get to the "turbines to speed" part and the whole abortion thing hits the fan all over again.
Should artificial womb technology become a viable and affordable method of bringing all fetuses fully to term without the original mother suffering any injury....would you favor outlawing abortion? If not, why not?
If you don't mind abortion in cases of rape or incest, you have already admitted that you don't think it's murder. So why ban it?
What about severe birth defects? And I ain't talking crookedy feet, or a funny eye, I'm talking no brain, or born inside out, shit like that.
I still think its murder but without a rape/incest exception (which constitute an extremely tiny number of pregnancies anyway) you will never get support for banning most elective abortions. If you can't save everyone, save who you can.
A fetus/baby/child/person with no brain is never alive so its a moot point. Even if they do end up posting on wordforge.
That's interesting. So under what other circumstances would you favor giving crime victims the right to go out and kill someone other than the perpetrator?
