I'd say with the recent victories in Virginia and New Jersey the Dems have a good head start for 2018. Granted, they are blue states.
The interesting thing is the VA assembly may very well be going to the Ds and no one was predicting that. Trump also threw Gillespie under the bus after his loss.
It is surprising even with Trump being a lead weight for the Republicans. I mean just a year ago Hillary sucked 32 state parties dry and left them with no money and a mountain of debt. Dems badly need to win and win big at the state level in 2018 and 2020 so they can reverse the Republican gerrymandering of the congressional districts (which is done at the state level.
Washington's 45th (a special election to replace a dead state senator) is also worth watching. If the Dems pick it up then they will have 'the trifecta' in WA. It will also be the last eastside/moderate/Microsoft Republican. There are currently 6 states the Dems have control over both the leg and governor. New Jersey will be the 7th and WA and VA could be 8th and 9th.
Meanwhile, Republicans in Virginia were hauling out their usual dirty tricks, including robocalls to Democrats claiming that their polling place had changed and so on.
It's not looking good for Republicans. Or Trump. No matter what he says it still looks bad on him. Republicans could have this down easy if they weren't such colossal fuckups in the Congress.
Their tax plan is a complete budget busting piece of shit which won't help the economy any more than the failed Kansas piece shit did. Yet just a year ago we had Republicans lying and pretending to care about the debt.
This does show what a difficult balancing act Republicans will have to pull off. If they get to close to Trump the independents and suburban voters will dump them but if they don't endlessly kiss Trump's ass ignorant rural voters will dump them. In congressional district which are gerrymandered they won't have as tough a time but in governorships and senate seats where whole states get to vote...
And what, exactly, were the Republicans in Congress planning on doing with tax rates for the majority of Americans.
It's not really a big deal. Virginia - A Democrat replaced a Democrat governor. New Jersey - Not a big loss. Shouldn't have been Republican in the first place but Jon Corzine was so bad that the people ran to Christie which is why he was governor. So this is just New Jersey going back to blue. Both states were also blue in 2016. In NYC the people stupidly reelected the communist mayor. And in Virginia a Democrat did beat out a long term state legislator but really that's only one election, it's a blue state, and apparently the GOP candidate was an old idiot. Democrats did add more seats in the state legislature. So it's not really much of a change. The left can be happy but they will probably read too much into it. Now if it was a state like Texas that flipped than it would be serious. Edit: The GOP really fucked themselves over here with their stupidity of the last year. Trump is not really to blame even though it still makes it look bad for him.
Crap. We got the guy who wants NJ to be a sanctuary state, and promised to pass every gun control bill Christie vetoed. Fuck on a stick.
Maine's Question 2 (Obamacare Medicaid Expansion) also passed by very healthy margins. This will boost the effort in Idaho to put it on their ballot. Wouldn't be surprised if this goes on quite a few '18 ballots. It unites and excites the left and is even popular with moderates.
NONE of the NJ proposals are great things, they're all picayune little feel-good shit that only impacts people like me who aren't out to cause trouble. NJ is ALREADY one of the most gun-control-law-happy states in the country. More is pointless.
Last election thing it was all about the dems losing six times since trump was elected so their party was over. Now some of them won so it is a message to trump and the republicans that they are losing. I grow tired of the molehill mountains. This is like a political weatherman who wants every rain even to be the storm of the century. My thought is if trump has not blown up the world yet it will be business as usual tomorrow for most people.

Since when if Virginia considered a blue state? Obama was the first time that state went blue in decades. Jersey: eh. Still, good news.
