For the tiny chance that you actually care about being accurate, the modified Buffy quote was in Jeriko's sig., and he wasn't english, he was a yank. Again, sig line, a troll that accompanied every post post of his (except for those who ignore sigs). Meh, why bother, really?
Shutting down the board rather than passing it on would have been an incredibly selfish move. Glad Anna was able to talk him out of it.
Mind you, I can't say I didn't understand his frustration at the time. But I figured we'd made enough bad blunders from just jumping into shit. That said, I'll say now, what I've said from my first day here: it's an ad free space by private ownership. No one is entitled to anything they didn't pay for. We can all agree the current owners have been the best of the lot, but I can promise you the minute they make a misstep, they too will be seen as The Enemy by some.
Packard does. We should fix this by banning him No, but it's shootER, Krieg and Christopher and the fact that you needed to ask is exactly a good thing.
Dude, gturner was handing out his password to people so they could log into his account. That is a huge permaban on any and every board I have been on. I have never seen a board that would let a user back after that it was pure stupid. That is such a fucking bullshit trapfuckfest I told him to kiss off. You dumb shits logged on and really should have gotten a vacation to remind you that you don't do that shit. I know boards that would have been done with the whole bunch of people they saw log into his account. There would have been a huge chain ban and mods would have said shut the fuck up. You were treated with a very light touch. Go to any other board and ask a moderator what would happen to you if you used another users account to post. You should count yourself lucky. Most places don't play with that bullshit.
I swear to god Packard is unbannable. I tried many times, with his permission even, and the board software refused.
Oh please. It wasnt a simple mistep.. I'll thank you for talking him out of it, but screw Gul for considering shutting this place down out of spite. I'd like to say I'm surprised but judging his condescending attitude he always showed towards people he regularly disagreed with I'm not. He took the job knowing the responsibility that came with it and proceeded to use it as a weapon to piss off people who then chose to leave. Banning a poster because you don't like him is abuse of power and he deserved every bit of blowback that he got from it. If he wasn't able to hold his personal feelings in check then he had no business being the owner and we're much better off now.
Gul's decision was not a misstep, but some of the things that happened before, that lead up to Gul's frustration? Those were missteps. The problem is that instead of working it out rationally, some of the posters went absolutely apeshit. Gturner opened his account to everyone who wanted to take a shot, a number of posters were sharing my Blue Room thread information, and then we had people like Ramen just acting like mental patients frothing at the mouth and screaming nigger at the top of their lungs because they could. A board owner does not have to allow those things to continue, and Gul figured that if THIS was what Wordforge had become, then it needed to be put out of its misery. Anna clearly had more faith in the place than Gul had, or had a little more patience than he did, which makes her a fucking saint when considering what some posters were throwing in her direction.
Even if you disagree with what Amaris said above, in what world is racist spam and trolling an appropriate or reasonable response to board policy?! Nothing that has ever transpired in Wordforge's history merits that. Not the Borgs incident, not Tamar jumping into the middle of a domestic spat, not the foolishness that nearly killed the board in 2007 or rep wars or Encouragement. Nothing. If you believe otherwise, it says more about you than it ever did about Gul or Anc or John.
Oh gosh, so much history... I will admit that I spammed the board with some bad words along with Tasvir because I thought it was funny. Thankfully those threads have been lost or intentionally deleted. I swear, kids these days don't understand what life is like outside of Facebook.
The instructor of my current class was telling me the cool kids all love Snapchat because all the videos get erased after 24 hours. Me, I can't imagine not having an online record of my life. I get sad knowing so many fandom spaces I posted at no longer exist or are no longer much useful (hi, Livejournal). Meh. I've got a memory like an elephant and I spent way too much time on this hellsite in my formative years The only thread I would kill for was that Meka clusterfuck. Even poster who was active in 2006 must've responded to that 1300 post abortion of a thread
Why should someone who owns something not be able to do with it as they wish? Its no abuse of power. That's ridiculous. It may be hypocritical to apply rules differently to different people but to say it's an abuse of power is just plain dumb. Posters have zero rights.
Not saying posters have rights, but just because an owner can do whatever he wants doesn't mean it's smart business. Put it this way, did board membership go up or down with Gul? We both know the answer to that. So I'd say that having an arrogant fascist for an owner wasn't in the best interest of Wordforge.
Membership hit a peak around '06, 07 and started to noticably tank in '08 as the novelty of clubbing each other wore off, most of us grew up and Facebook took the place message boards once held. Of all the boards I've posted at, this and TBBS and maybe one other one still has anything in the way of measurable activity. This isn't anything new or entirely reflective of Gul. And as much as y'all hated him, Lanz has stated often that he too was tempted to turn the lights out, sooooooo.....
I just want to take this opportunity to thank the administration for all of their hard work. They do a great job running the board. A fantastic job. The best job. I am not ashamed to say I love them. More than my own family. More than life itself.
If you’d like to make a call, please hang up and try again. If you need help hang up and then dial your operator. Message C16.
There was a time when TNZ was unmoderated and fun. The deal was, don't go into the kitchen if you can't take the heat. Then they went back on their word and started moderating it by rules that they seemed to be making up as they went along. Like many great things, it only takes one short sighted person with authority to ruin it.
