Actually, the bill doesn’t have any prohibitions against semi-auto pistols, only against so-called assault weapons, and there are a shit ton of exemptions.

no, there was plenty about semi-automatic pistols. They almost all have "detachable magazines" which seems to be the deal breaker for gun control fans.

It defines semi-automatic pistols but doesn’t (as far as I can tell) declare them unlawful.

Don’t worry about it, there’s no chance of it even coming up for a vote anytime soon.

wow matthunter you seem to be totally ignorant regarding hunting or target shooting. Shooting multiple targets (such as metal sillouettes) in a limited time period is pretty popular and thus you don't shoot all your rounds at one target, you shoot from target-to-target. You need a lot of rounds for that. And three bullets per attacker when you are defending your family against moving multiple targets? Good luck with all that.

Note, a followup post on another forum in response to me posting this about gun control measures in Australia (by an Australian).

Not since Port Arthur has there been a mass shooting.... except the Manash University shooting which killed 2 and injured 5. Oh yeah and the Hectorville shooting, 3 dead, 3 injured. ...And the Hunt Family - 4 murdered, 1 suicide. Let's not forget Peter Shoonbridge in Tasmania, no wait, he only shot and killed himself; after cutting the throats of his 4 daughters while they slept.

Of course there's always other options when firearms are not available... Arson. The Childers Palace Hostel fire that killed 15 and the Quakers Hill nursing home fire that killed 11 and the Churchill Fire that killed 10 and the Rozell murders that killed 3 and injured 2. ... or a knife. The Cairns killings of 8 children. ...or ...if arson is not your thing and you can't find just the right knife for the job there is always the handy blunt instrument. One of them was used in the Lin family murders, killing 5. When everything else fails you can always just drive a stolen Holden Commodore through a crowd - 6 killed 30 injured.

He also basically called a couple Senators pussies for being afraid of the NRA, which proves that even a fucking moron is right once in a while.

Come on fellas! Trump wants to confiscate our guns without due process! He wants the cops to kick in our doors and violate our constitutional rights just because a few people called them and said we were weird!

Let's die on that hill called the 2nd Amendment! Who's with me?

Confiscating guns without due process? Trump must be courting the democrat vote in case he does decide to run again in 2020. Well played Donald! :storm:

He's actually out-Democrating the Democrats. Trump's gone full Feinstein. Never go full Feinstein.

And I'm shocked...SHOCKED that you've turned gun grabber just because of politics. :weep:

Trump is (most likely) a typical city dweller office dweeb and has limited time around guns or gun owners or outdoor sportsmen of any kind. He probably doesn't know a Ruger .44 mag revolver from a Remington 870 12 gauge or the theory behind how they function.

Just to be clear...are you making excuses for him, or are you saying he's a typical AWB era gun grabber?

Not making excuses for him, just saying given his background he probably doesn't have much use for guns, interest in or knowledge of guns, and given his personality & inclinations I doubt if he wants to invest much time in learning about them. Definitely a time for letting the SME in his cabinet keep him on a tight leash before he puts his foot in his mouth. All bets are off on that most of the time, but you never know.
