No they didn't. When Peter Criss and Ace Frehley first left the band the Catman and the Spaceman characters were both retired. 'New members Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent became the Fox and the Ankh. Two new and totally different characters.

I have contended for some times now that a successful DC (or Marvel) strategy would be to have a "Classics" line which appealed to the stalwart long-time fans, and an alternate line (which, let's call "Ultimate" just for the sake of it being a familiar word) which is designed t develop and draw in a new generation of fans (be they "SJW" interested or whatever)

the Classic line would carry on ongoing continuities, the Ultimate line would start everything as if it were brand new and only use the previous continuity as a lose general guide to what a given character is about. Every 20 years, the Ultimate becomes the Classic line, the former classic line is retired to reprints and graphic novel collections and whatever, and a new "fresh start" Ultimate line that isn't beholden to the previous continuity.

Thus you are constantly re-inventing yourself for a new generation while still having product that's marketed to loyal long-time fans.

    Speaking of Black Panther..

Good thing Stan Lee wasn't as creatively bankrupt as today's writers . Instead of an original concept such as Black Panther, it might have been a retconned David Banner.

that ended up being a parody but it was so good as a mockery of the "OMG! SJWs everywhere!" crowd that many didn't notice

I can't afford to buy comics but from what I've seen on io9, that whole "Batman Metal" shit was bizarre enough to be the perfect example to anyone who bitches about anything changing.

Considering the number of superpowers out there, and what has already been made are there any super powers left that have not already been there? If they have not been made do we really want to see them? Oh look it is zebra man who beats evil with his powers of vertical stripes.

I think Marvel should create a new universe of sorts, where things would be a little more realistic and ordinary joes would get super powers due to some kind of celestial event. What could go wrong there?

It isn't that the characters are minorities, it's that they're SJWs with the kind of horrible writing you'd expect to go with that. Hell, Captain Marvel turned into a Nazi and runs her own concentration camps, but that's okay, because they're all white and guilty of wrongthink. :diacanu:

From Wiki: "Wild Cards is a series of science fiction superhero shared universe anthologies, mosaic novels, and solo novels written by a collection of more than thirty authors referred to as the Wild Cards Trust and edited by George R. R. Martin and co-edited by Melinda M. Snodgrass. Set largely during an alternate history of post-World War II United States, the series follows humans who contracted the Wild Card virus, an alien virus that rewrites DNA and mutates survivors; those who acquire minor or crippling physical conditions are known as Jokers, and those who acquire superhuman abilities are known as Aces."

Cool concept but the first book was just dreadful. I did not like it and it really ended the series for me.

If you really believe that, you know nothing at all about the comics you're judging. Shortly after female Thor's first issue, we got a story that included future Thor, who was Odinson and said to his hammer, when entering a dangerous fight, "Let's make her proud who once wore you best." The second issue of Nazi Captain America shows us how Red Skull engineered the changed timeline and how it might be changed back again. New Hulk doesn't spend more than ten minutes green before swearing to bring back old Hulk. And so on.

If he did it now, he'd be labeled Antifa/SJWs and FoxNews would spend a week ranting about it. Remember a few months ago when some alt-right dipshits cried about Wolfenstein being anti-Nazi.

I want her in the movies, but she is a bit too silly for their tone. At least she'll be in the New Warriors show, played by that actress from the AT&T ads.

It's in the fucking name, Social Justice Warrior. It's someone fighting for social justice, fighting the KKK is fighting for social justice. Especially in 1930s when they held actual political power. Superman fighting them on the radio ruined them in the eyes of the public, they became a joke. Superman achieved actual social justice. The only difference is that some people just don't agree with what those promoting social justice aim to achieve, usually because it takes away some pathetic and false sense of superiority over some group. It's really no coincidence that it's usually a bunch of white straight guys threatened by Black Panther being successful because they think it takes away something from there being white superheroes. Does pepperoni pizza suck because you can also get other toppings? No, it just gives more possibilities. I can't wrap my head around why anyone would be against it unless you just want the same thing over and over forever. It's so boring. That's why Enterprise got cancelled, it was recycled shit made from more recycled shit made from rejected TOS Phase II and TNG scripts.

Whenever people talk about SJWs and entertainment I think of my dad. He was a big Star Trek fan. Loved it. But every time the TNG theme started, he'd roll his eyes and sigh when Picard said "...where no one has gone before."

So finally I asked him why this annoyed him so much. He said, "It's supposed to be where no MAN has gone before. It's just so...PC."

And that, to me, is what pisses people off. I don't think anyone here is a racist, but I think that "diversity for diversity's sake" really bugs the hell out of some people. Rather than celebrate inclusivity, they roll their eyes and call these kinds of things PC or SJW bullshit. Having a black female as Iron Man doesn't bother some people because they hate black females, necessarily. They just think choosing a black female is a choice made solely for the sake of diversity.

And when diversity is a negative word, mocking people for being fighters for social justice is a natural consequence.

When diversity is a negative word, you are dealing with bigots. In the case of racial diversity, racists. Opposing "diversity for diversity's sake" is like saying, why should we do good things simply because they are good?

    THAT is the equation!!
I happened to stop for comics on the way home last night, and brought up this conversation with my comic book lady. She said the same thing - new people started coming into her store after the movies started coming out, interested in the Thor and Iron Man they saw on screen. She had to explain to them that they were both women at the moment, and try to sell them on it. She was pretty angry while she was telling me this, because it cost her sales - not simply because the characters were women, but because the new customers wanted to see what they saw in the movies, and that wasn't what the comics were.
