It was good! I liked it. But, surprisingly, I didn’t have the same emotional reaction to the film that a lot of my friends had.

Most of them are not comic book fans and were only familiar with the films... whereas I’ve been reading them since I was a kid (including the original Infinity Gauntlet and it’s followups).

So the character deaths didn’t hit me hard. It’s comics... anyone and everyone can come back somehow if they really want them back. This is a universe that mixes gods, aliens, high technology, time travel, multiuniverses, cosmic beings, and magic.

Jean Grey recently came back to life (again) in the comics after being dead for 14 years.

Norman Osborn came back after decades of being dead and is back to being Peter Parker’s primary villain. Amazing Spider-Man 800 comes out next month and is supposedly the final showdown between the two. Until someone down the road decides otherwise.

Anything can happen. So that dulls the impact for me somewhat. Still a great movie... great culmination of everything that came before it. I am curious how this story will be resolved and I find it odd that we are getting another Ant-Man movie before the next Avengers.

Unless he has a really important role to play in Avengers 4 it seems like a weird place to put a more comedic film. Captain Marvel, chronologically, takes place well before most of these other movies so that one doesn’t actually come between. Plus if you watch the end credits scene it make sense why they are waiting to introduce Captain Marvel.

Ant-Man & Wasp happens before Infinity War.
Maybe it explains why they were absent.

    Oh, and...

    Not for me.
We don't know who's staying dead, or coming back, or what.
We DO know the dead people are gonna miss out on Avengers 4.
If your favorites are gone, that's still gonna be a bummer.

    Okay, saw it.

Summary: LOTS of Marvel-y action and ties up (or starts to) a decade's worth of different films, there's a surprisingly interesting villain (one of the MCU's best), and a whole lotta shocking stuff happens. I liked it quite a lot, but it's very much a movie for people who are already fans of the series; I think newcomers would be somewhat lost/overwhelmed by all the characters and plot threads. Best Marvel movie yet? No, but certainly the most ambitious in terms of scale. Ye gods, a lot happens in this film.

On a pleasant note, the "spoilers" I accidentally came across a couple of days ago were actually not true spoilers, so two things I thought were going to happen didn't.

I won't go into specific spoilers, just my reactions, but some people might consider the emotions I felt to be too revealing, so...

Where does this film sit in terms of recent Marvel releases? I liked it better than Black Panther but not as much as Thor: Ragnarok (though T:R is pretty light compared to this).

Yeah, I thought the use of the

Saw it last night. Good action, nice balancing of screen time for the massive cast of characters. They obviously played up the comedy bits for the GotG group pretty much, except for Gamora, who had daddy-issues-drama instead.

Didn't care for the downer ending, even knowing there's a "part 2" coming. They still left the good guys with virtually no hope to win--similar IMO to the ending of The Last Jedi--save for one post-credits scene that seems to summon a character that the MCU hasn't even introduced to us yet!

Otherwise, it was a highly entertaining summary of a universe that Marvel has gotten us all invested in over the past decade or so.

$250 million estimated opening, breaking the record held by Force Awakens. Guess those 41 critics who didn't like the film on Rotten Tomatoes didn't make much of an impact with audiences, did they?

I haven't seen it yet, but anyone who has read the comics (which I assume includes most everyone here) already knows that Thanos kills almost all the heroes. I would be surprised if the movie had the balls to kill some of them as gruesomely as the comics (Spiderman had his heart torn out, Iron Man had his head ripped off, Thor was turned to glass and shattered, Cyclops suffocates when Thanos puts a square force field around his head).

Hm. The numbers are in and they are impressing: 250 million in the US and Canada over the weekend. 630 million (!) worldwide - but it hasn't launched in China yet. For comparison: JUSTICE LEAGUE made around 650 million worldwide. Over its entire theatrical run.

    Marvel won :borg:

Opens in China on 5/11. Even though I generally avoid comical book heroes these days, I'll see it.

You're gonna be lost if you haven't followed the others since the start.
    Better start bingeing.
I did it to refresh myself, and doing 3 a day, it took me a week.

Heard it referred to as 'the Leftovers prequel,' which is kinda funny.

How long ago did they change the official pipeline description of I.W. Part I & Part II to some marketing pretext that Infinity War would actually be a standalone movie? Something to do with "Part 2s" underperforming slightly at the box office. . .

Yes, there's no doubt Marvel is far superior at the box office.

Still, I like the DC stuff (and love some of it) and there's room enough for both if DC can get their act together.

I like having DC and Fox to get me over the hump waiting for the Marvels.

DC is looking like they're gearing up more, but not until starting next year, and Fox's current universe might go extinct after 2020.
DC's increased output, and Sony-Spidey-verse had better take up the slack.

It's interesting - the only comics I ever read was DC (30 years ago or so ;)). I had never even heard about most Marvel heroes before the films started rolling. But... they are just more interesting. More human. Not even Batman is as human as, say, Thor.

The DC movies have not been bad. They lack one ingredient absolutely crucial to superhero movies: they are just not much fun to watch. Marvel got that so damn right.

Oh, he certainly can be. Nolan's Batman movies showed that well, I think.
Yes, DC needs to make things more fun.

Well, Captain America is in hiding from the governments and Iron Man's faction after Civil War
Groot of course was blown to bits at the end of Guardians 1, he spent Guardians 2 as a baby sapling
The Guardians crew also picked up an antennae chick with mind powers
Black Panther's in charge of the African country of Wakanda
Have yet to see Ragnarok (or Black Panther TBH), someone else will have to fill you in there

. . . uh, I think that might bring you up to speed, presuming you have an idea who everyone is.
