He ran guns for the Spanish Republicans. Of course, there’s no pressing need for a prequel movie about that.
Surely there’s a young Humphrey Bogart out there ready to try. Oh perhaps his estate is ready to Grand Moff Tarkin him.
That seemed obvious to me as well. Han's "Even I get boarded sometimes " seemed clear to me that Jabba figured Solo was such an outstanding smuggler that the only reason he could've failed to deliver was that 1) He wasn't trying to succeed or 2) He was actually trying to cheat Jabba by selling the load on his own and claiming he had to jettison it to avoid being arrested by the Empire. Both of which makes more sense as to why Jabba was so intent on killing Han (or reducing him to an ornament) than simply getting his money back.
Yikes. Solo will be lucky to cross $300 million worldwide by the end of its run. By comparison, Rogue One did over $1 billion.
I wonder if SOLO would've done better at the box office had they released it for Christmas 2018 instead of Summer 2018?
I don't know what the final word on Solo's box office performance will be, but I'd say it was facing a perfect storm of forces working against it: 1. Competition. Avengers: Infinity War had only been out for 2 weeks when Solo was released, Deadpool 2 came out the week before. There was plenty of non-SW action competing for theatergoer's money. 2. Bad marketing. 3. A lot of the SW fan base was disgruntled after The Last Jedi. It's a shame it will be chalked up a box office failure, because it's actually a decent film.
I finally broke down and saw it the other day. It was good. I still believe it very unnecessary. I still hate Kathleen Kennedy and think she should be fired. I still think Rian Johnson is a hack and his trilogy should be cancelled. I still don't like TLJ. I'm still weary as to where episode nine will go. There were definitely some things I didn't like or felt out of place, or just plain stupid, (his last name given to him) but overall it was a decent movie. I still think Rogue One is the best of the new movies and Lucasfilm needs to really do some soul searching.
That I don't understand. Hate should be reserved for like....someone who shot your parents, or the guy that fucked your wife, or the boss that fired you for having bad ideas, then turned around and stole all your ideas. Shit like that. What crime did Kathleen Kennedy commit? She made a movie you didn't like? Yeah....doesn't line up. Think you've watched too many Youtube videos by enraged fist shaking knuckleheads. That stuff can be funny, but a steady diet of it can poison you. Calm down, put it in perspective.
Sorry to harp on that, but people are trolling her with vile evil shit, and I don't think it's deserved. No one is owed any movie ever made, so this "you ruined (franchise X)", crap is just entitlement, and not worth hurting anyone over. We can discuss if she should be fired, or forced to step down, as a business thing, but no one should HATE her. No one should HATE anyone in Hollywood but the perverts on the pile.
Of the three Star Wars movies delivered on Kathleen Kennedy's watch, I've liked all three. The worst thing I can say is that I'm not sure I love any of them. And, ambivalent as I am about it, The Last Jedi at least broke some new ground and made the universe "bigger." Is it time for new leadership at Lucasfilm? Perhaps. Solo was a debacle (behind-the-scenes and in terms of box office), and there have been some high-profile false starts (Josh Trank [somewhat understandable given Fant4stic] and Colin Treverrow [kinda sorta understandable given The Book of Henry]). Jon Campea has a pretty good video explaining why she should depart; I'm not wholly convinced.
Kennedy is the one at the top, the buck stops with her. Putting politics aside, despite it being a major problem that drove fans away, her reign at LucasFilm has been marred with a slew of fired directors, expensive reshoots, questionable marketing decisions, questionable writing and director choices, and comical toy sales. It was capped off with her doing the seemingly impossible by MAKING A STAR WARS FILM UNPROFITABLE.
That's the most damning thing against her. The other things could maybe be hand-waved away, but she's ultimately responsible for one of the biggest movie franchises in the world releasing a film that way underperformed.
It's the kind of failure that will hopefully be disected and laid out in textbooks for business students to study as a warning.
The review of "Solo" in the most recent issue of National Review hit the nails on the head so to speak. It said the movie was competently made and moved along and it hit all the notes that people would expect. Solo as a former Imperial. Solo freeing a Wookie who becomes his best friend and co pilot. Solo making the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs. Solo winning the Falcon from Lando. The review points out that taken individually, those different elements would be fine but taken together they seem like "checking the box movie making".
After seeing the last several Star Wars movies it seems to me that they could've come out ahead by simply making some of the better Expanded Universe stories in to movies.
Star Wars fatigue is partly to blame. We went 16 years without fresh SW after ROTJ. Then waited another 10 years between ROTS and FA. Now they're churning out a new film every year since 2015. Enough already. Months of bad buzz caused by behind-the-scenes drama prior to release soured the audience on the film. Solo is a film nobody asked for and wasn't needed. Solo the character was ruined by Force Awakens. Prequel-itis, who cares about seeing his origins when you know he ends up on the wrong end of Kylo's saber? SJW progressive politics shoehorned into Star Wars, alienating a large percentage of fans. We don't need the actor portraying Lando announcing that the character is bisexual in order to appease the Twitter snowflake mob, when the accepted understanding since 1980 has been that Lando is a smooth-talking ladies man.
i dont buy the fatigue excuse, we get a new marvel movie about every 6 months with no real complaints of fatigue
Well, let me ask you something, if Rey being the hero of 2 of the movies is an SJW agenda, what was the agenda of Anakin/Luke being the heroes of the first 6?
