S.J. Clarkson is the director. She'll be the first female director of the film franchise. Seeing a lot of goodies in her IMDB. Dexter, Jessica Jones, Defenders, House... Trek TV of course, Roxanne Dawson did a crapload of Voyagers and Enterprises. The Google headlines act like there's never been female Trek directors EVER. Simon Pegg revealed it, so it looks like we're getting the JJ-verse cast again.
Sounds great! Here's a link from Variety to explain things in more detail: http://variety.com/2018/film/news/s-j-clarkson-star-trek-4-chris-pine-chris-hemsworth-1202787592/
Star Trek ID is wrath of khan. Star Trek beyond destroys the enterprise like in search for Spock. Star Trek four involves time travel like in Star Trek IV the voyage home. I can’t wait until what part of the final frontier they rip off. What does god need with a starship?
Well, shit, Trek 4 is falling apart. Chris Pine & Chris Hemsworth have dropped out over contract disputes. No Kirk, no movie. No movie, no further franchise. Pissah, I really wanted them to wrap up JJverse, and fold it back into continuity. http://www.darkhorizons.com/pine-hemsworth-exit-star-trek-4/
Paramount insists they're moving forward, so this should be interesting. If it sits in development hell for too long, though, it will kill any momentum Star Trek Beyond managed to create.
I like both Pine and Hemsworth. But in my opinion, Pine's Captain Kirk played much more like a parody of the character than anything else.
Given how little love was given to Beyond by the studio, maybe just leaving the movies fallow for a few years would be no bad thing. Better than them ploughing ahead without Pine and Yelchin. The big screen has never been the comfiest fit for Trek, and given the current vogue for tentpoles, the path to a successful Trek film is treacherous, having to juggle budgets, audience expectations and one of the more awkward fandoms out there. I'd be pretty comfortable with no more cinema runs for Trek. If there is to be another movie, let someone like Netflix have at it.
Forced to gloomily agree. The CBS All Access shows are about to multiply like Tribbles, we won't exactly be hurting for new content.
I didn't see Beyond. I'm sick of having the Enterprise destroyed in movies just to create false tension and pointless drama.
I'm happier with the direction of the TV show(s). Let the JJ-verse die off . It will be a footnote in the grand scheme of things, it's only import being the fate of Spock.
Um, how about the fact that it introduced a whole new generation to Trek and showed that it could be a profitable enterprise again? Without JJ Abrams, there would very likely be no Discovery... nor the slew of new Trek shows coming out. It will be more than a footnote.
There's an interesting idea. Not necessarily NuSpock, but young Picard. Or just a TNG reboot. How about Ralph Fiennes as NuPicard?
Doesn't need to be a reboot, Picard was on the Stargazer for 20 years, there's unlimited stories you can cram in there.
My dislike of the Abramsverse was never with the recasting though I always thought there were better choices for Spock and Scotty and I personally didn't think that Chekov, Sulu, and Uhura should've been included as I think its obvious there is about half a generation different between those three and the four older characters.
