I liked "A Piece of the Action immensely but that is an amzingly fucking stupid concept for a Trek movie.
And? You haven't liked any Trek since, I don't know, maybe DS9. Certainly, nothing that's shown up since I joined the board. Given that track record, why should this be any different for you?
I like Enterprise quite a bit. 09 Trek was good, so was Beyond. Parts of Discovery have some good moments, so did Lower Decks and even Picard. Even Voyager had good parts, but overall it’s bad compared to TOS, TNG and DS9. I don’t trust JJ Abrams or the Discovery writing team to come up with anything meaningful when it comes to Trek or any franchise really. In other words, I have a bad feeling about this.
But he puts implicit trust in alt-right Youtubers, because they have such trustworthy faces, and dress so snappily. Oh, wait, they hide behind rant-sonas, and alter their voices. Well, maybe it's their amazing philosophical wisdom. Oh, wait, they act like 7 year olds. Huh... (Maine accent again) Ain't that oooddd!!??
Release date is June 9, 2023. No other details, plot, title, nothin. BUT, those details must exist to be had, you don't plan a movie out that far ahead, and just go "I'd like...something to happen here...". https://www.startrek.com/news/param...T8-IWwDyzKrUoKGt30rgqYgSIErS-pBEh1wT1jbYGOjfg
Abrams and a Discovery writer is involved. No thanks. https://trekmovie.com/2021/04/09/br...dules-star-trek-feature-film-for-summer-2023/
That's a dumb way to think. Peter David did one of the best Trek novels ever, but he also did some of the worst comics ever. Akiva Goldsman wrote "Batman & Robin" but he did "Doom Patrol" which is a fucking masterpiece. David S. Goyer wrote "Blade: Trinity" but also the Nolan Batman trilogy. People's resumes fluctuate. They're not all one thing like a Taco Bell dinner.
Akiva Goldsman is also responsible for NuTrek. Blade: Trinity wasn't that bad. Abrams does not get Trek. He barely understands Star Wars and we saw how Rise of Skywalker turned out. Kalinda Vasquez is a CW writer, which explains a whole lot. We're going to get more cry-Trek and probably ripping off a whole host of other movies. Don't believe me, just watch.
Star Trek: Beyond was my least favorite of the NuTrek series movies, which is weird because it had so much going for it. I'm happy that there's likely to be a Trek 4 to help redeem the series. I suppose no word if it's going to be the Pine / Quinto / Urban / Saldana / Pegg / Cho crew?
