We're creeping up on warp drive in real life, and it looks like we might just squeak by without having a nuclear war in the 21st century, maybe a third timeline for Trek based on where we're really going?
    I could dig that.

It's likely not related to any of the shows, so probably a third timeline or post TNG Era.

Since Abrams is involved, why do you assume that it's not Kelvinverse?

    Oh fuck no...

"These are voyages of the Amazon ship Bezosprize, boldly delivering Prime packages made by enslaved Muslims in China to self-obsessed social media jackasses where no drone has ever delivered Prime packages made by enslaved Muslims in China to self-obsessed social media jackasses before!" (sponsored by Blue Origin!)

I mean, it's like Ayn Rand had a fever dream about Futurama after watching Firefly.

Everything I've read indicates to me that it's not and there has been no movement on getting the cast back, especially Pine.

In a galaxy where Tribbles won the war against the Klingons, one man -- one crew -- one ship is all that stands between humanity and an unending reign of cute tyranny . . .

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-team.

Isn't there an issue with the rights that Paramount have that dictates what they're allowed to make movies about? Can't remember the details but I'm sure there's something.

No I mean exactly what I wrote. IMDB doesn't list her as a writer, they list her as a consulting producer. That tells me nothing about her as a writer.

I don't think that applies anymore because Paramount + took over CBS AA. So I did some digging and came up with this. All Star Trek is now called Star Trek Universe. This is their logo.

I like it. They are heavily focusing on the new shows so it could be that Discovery is getting a movie. This ad for Paramount + pretty much explains Star Trek Universe in a nutshell.

I think there's been some ideas floating around for a while and I think they finally nailed down what they want. I think they want their own MCU type franchise, surprise, surprise. These are just guesses though.

Waaaaay too much focus on Discovery for an ad that is supposed to tout the "Star Trek Universe".

One shot of Captain Kirk? Are you fucking kidding me?

I get that they're trying to appeal to contemporary viewers, but just call it "nuTrek Universe" if you're not going to acknowledge the long road that got us from there to here.

There's a TNG porno out there and cuts of it can be found that just include all the non-porn scenes because it's apparently quite a good fan film.

I think it would be wise to do something completely unrelated to any past continuity, but I fear they're probably looking for their own cinematic universe.:(

He heard it leads to the Dark Side eventually, and he wants that lightning shit.

Sadly, he'll just get the prune face and, if he's lucky, a granddaughter who stabs the fuck out of him.

Because all movie studios are trying to build cinematic universes and the only studio that has been successful is Marvel. Couple that with the belief that every movie has to make a billion dollars or it's a failure, it's very problematic, especially for a franchise like Star Trek. If this movie doesn't do what Paramount thinks it should do, then they'll likely pull the plug on any movies for a long time. People seem to forget that Marvel didn't hit 1 billion until Avengers. That's five movies building on the success of it's predecessor before Avengers premiered. These studio executives want the first movie in the franchise to make a billion dollars, it's not going to happen with Star Trek. What they ought to do is make a smaller budgeted movie set on a few location like TWOK or TUC was and do the rest in studio using, mostly, practical effects. If they were to do that, they could easily make a profit and build up sequels. Iron Man had a budget of 140 million and grossed 585.2 million and was made in the same way that I just described.

I'm sorry, until something is well into production i don't care. What is this, 4, 5? More? Stabs at it?
Are they going to pay Chris Pine? Dump that cast? Do a TNG story?

I dunno. I'ma watch Strange New Worlds and be much happier.

I dunno if I've already said it in this thread, but I'd be down for the TNG of the Kelvinverse.
With James McAvoy as young Picard.

James McAvoy (42) isn't much younger now than Patrick Stewart (47) was when ST:TNG debuted in 1987. Close enough in age that the age difference can be completely handwaved.

EDIT: And besides, since it's a different timeline, things aren't going to happen exactly the same way anyway, so who's to say Enterprise-D wasn't launched a few years earlier? Picard had already been a ship captain for awhile before he got the 1701-D in the Prime Universe, so no reason that timetable couldn't have been sped up a bit in the KelvinVerse.

EDIT 2: They already set precedence for this anyway, with the classic TOS crew being assembled 7 or 8 years too early, with Kirk as a Captain to boot!
