I think a great way to have Leia in episode IX, and keep her appearance canon would be to have her sitting on the Millennium Falcon with Chewbacca at the chess table. Have her beat Chewbacca at a game of chess, then have Chewie rip off her arms, it would keep the storyline canon with Wookies not liking to lose, and a nice way of connecting episode IX to episode IV. And if done at the beginning of the movie, keep the need for CGI down to a minimum for her appearance.
I would have been fine with them recasting. Pay Meryl Streep anything she wanted, and it would have been all good.
That would cause too much backlash from the fans. They already got hurt with Solo and people are already planning on boycotting episode nine.
Backlash from some fans, I'm sure. Not all, including myself. The problem with Solo wasn't Ehrenreich, it was months and months of horrible buzz caused by Kathleen Kennedy firing Lord & Miller and replacing them with ultimate company man hack Howard. Solo was also a film that wasn't needed and failed to add anything significant to the mythos, unless you enjoyed Lando coming out as pansexual or whatever the fuck that actor babbled about during that interview. Solo was also hurt by Star Wars fatigue, which is why all the other stand-alone films have now been put on the back burner. And finally, the real backlash came from fans enraged over the upchucked ball of shit that was Last Jedi.
Red Letter Media guys, “OMG, there’s Finn, is that the Millinium Falcon, OMG, it’s the Falcon you guys!”
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but no matter how lame the set pics are, it is a milestone that they have gotten started. The movie becomes more real for me when they start shooting. It'll be even more real when they pick a damned title.
It is a milestone. Given the financial failure of the last ten films it’s a miracle this film is being made.
Ope, now they're saying they might use TLJ footage too. Hey, if you're bringing back a dead person with editing, and not CGI, you need every scrap of them you can get your hands on.
The more I think about it, the more leery I am of the whole reusing footage thing. I hope it isn't awkward.
Dominic Monaghan joins the cast. No word on the character, or how big a part he plays. http://www.darkhorizons.com/dominic-monaghan-joins-star-wars-episode-ix/
The people in charge of Star Wars are treating it as a cargo cult. I agree with @The Flashlight sentiments. They don't even have a story to tell, no objective point of view can articulate one, to defend this garbage is misguided corporate masturbation. It's dead, JJ and his ilk are just fucking the corpse.
