Beyond the race angle, this also suggests the "good guy with a gun" stopping the next mass shooter is only gonna get wasted by the cops for his efforts.

Any disadvantaged ethnic group will be necessity be associated with higher crime (and crucially, conviction) rates, in any society anywhere in the world. There are endless reasons for this, none of which are the fault of the disadvantaged group.

yes Matt the cops assumed a good guy was a criminal - in a nation where the cops respond to HUNDREDS of similar incidents involving armed violence at a club per year. While ironic & tragic, this is not common by any stretch of the imagination. Guaranteed if the cops had not shot this good guy (and the club incident played out as per usual in any town or city) you would have never heard about it. Have you heard about every club/bar shooting in Augusta GA? Heard about any club shooting in Augusta? No, because that is local news unless shit loads of people get shot up.
Also factor in here in Augusta (it could be different in Robbins Illinois) around 90 percent of the security workers are black, and 80+ percent (I'm being conservative it's probably higher) of the gun violence involves blacks, do the math. And no, 90 percent of the cops are not white here and the HMIC cop is black as is the mayor so no big race angle exists here. I hope this kind of thing never happens here regardless.

Disagree with Soma - math is to blame and of course statistics for the perception. Okay and the FBI because they track such crime demographics. And The Jail Report because DAMN they might try to sell papers by putting the hottest chicks and the goofiest drunkest losers arrested on the front page, but there are a lot of black faces in that crime related newspaper. And hispanics are getting some traction too despite being a very small minority here. So much for "staying under the radar" and out of trouble. That said the worst criminals as far as total dollar amount to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars in many cases? drum roll please.........white people and military.

so in your experience the police......oh wait you live in Canada - never mind. Threat assessments have to be done "on the spot under intense pressure" just as often in Canadian cities as they do in Memphis, Baltimore, Detroit, Newark, etc. Got it!
