We're discussing an issue with how American police conduct themselves. Lets stay on topic.

So let's say this is your typical Sunday in big city America and it's the warzone oldfella is trying to portray it as. Why not have the police adopt the type of training the US military uses for civilian threat assessment and deescalation? It'd be better than what we have right now. Which is nothing.

So much for the myth that arming more people will lead to fewer gun deaths. This was the typical good guy with a gun shot for doing the right thing. I guess the caveat is that only white people can be the good guy with a gun, and police will shoot armed African Americans on sight.

The good guy with the gun did get the bad guy with the gun. He did exactly what he was supposed to do. That fact doesn’t change just because he was killed.

Why not have police adopt US military training? Because then people would bitch about the "militarization" of the police. Seriously though not busting on the cops but by-and-large our standards (US military) are a bit higher across the board so I'm not surprised if our threat assessment is better. After all if we fuck up and kill the wrong people we can and likely will get fired and possibly charged & incarcerated. We are supposedly the "trained killers" but consistently go "above & beyond" to not kill anybody including the enemy if we can help it. What a country!

The complaints regarding militarization are the result of trigger happy cops that don't really know what they're doing. Amusingly some military training based on the occupational forces role may help in reducing those complaints. It's not perfect but it's something.

Also considering police forces across the country already have a bunch of surplus military equipment we might as well train them in the proper use of it. It might help prevent swat teams from acting like no knock raids are a paintball event.

I think the present training is; if the subject is black fill them with lead before they shoot back. If the subject is white be very polite.

Oh yes I TOTALLY AGREE that no knock raids are completely FUBAR. They just don't pass the "risk versus reward" test. They put everyone in danger and the tactic should be abandoned completely and alternatives developed and employed. That said if the sophistication of criminal organizations increases (and it is) it would be a good idea to send SWAT teams and other cops with special assignments to actual military training in the tactics & weaponry required to get the most out of them and keep everyone as safe as they can be in the process. I was a certified instructor (theory & hands-on) for several years and for the most part the military does a great job of teaching a large amount of material in a very short time - the cops would get their money's worth no doubt about it. Maybe this is already being done somewhere - the military can be pretty closed-lipped about their activities for security and PR reasons.

It's easy while perched across the ocean to find some isolated story in support of one's hateful views, pull the string, and see all the virtuous internet warriors hem and haw about how much they hate their country and everything it stands for based on sweeping conclusions and generalizations on an (not-yet-verified) anecdote.

Another e.g.: witness how many blacks are booted out of a shop every day because of their skin color. Certainly every incident will be reported and quickly 'go viral,' gaining lots of coverage. But since 'naziguy' Trump took over I can only recall seeing one story where vagrants were asked to leave a store reportedly based on their skin color, not their vagrancy - Starbucks. But the hateful bigots can extrapolate based on their hate, and claim it happens all the time; see, just look at what that stupid manager did at Starbucks.

Did we forget that just a few days ago 12 people were killed in a bar and the first responding police officer was also killed? Did we forget that police have been having it pounded into their head that if there is an active shooter situation they are to go in shooting?

People want to crucify this police officer on almost no information being made public. Why don't we wait to see what actually happened?

Interesting you should mention that event considering there was a shooter before that who was white and did not kill himself and somehow the police managed to not kill him even though he was shooting at them. In this case no one shot at the police and they could not take a moment to determine if he was a threat despite no gunfire at the moment, and the security guard died because black lives do not matter even if they are the good guys.

But we all know you and oldfella are police apologists as long as the dead person is black because cops cannot take a moment to determine if a black guy is a threat before they spray and pray they hit the black guy. It is all ok with you because only black people got killed and their lives should be snuffed out by police acting irresponsibly with firearms. I think if white people got mowed down with this much indiscretion you would be wailing like our president at a reporter about how unfair the world is.
