    :(

First president I ever covered. I literally stood within arm's length of him a couple of days after he was elected. :(

Don’t agree w/all his policy positions but I have never doubted his love of country. And he walked the walk.

Intents don’t trump results, but they are mitigating factors.

    God Speed. :salute:

Oh for the days when a Republican could be presidential and dignified.

Just have to point out that the head of the George HW Bush Presidential Library has stated that the only reason HW's Presidency looks good is because of the failings of W.

He’s the first President I have memories of. Mostly because of that animated anti-drug PSA with a bunch of then current cartoon characters like the Ninja Turtles, Slimer and the Muppet Babies.

Hmm. Let's see, the first President I have memories of is Richard Nixon, so that would make you, Jesus-titty-fucking-Christ on a pogo stick, I don't want to think about it, years old.

She and I are pretty close in age.

I don't remember much about Bush Sr, but i do remember my first grade teacher telling us we had a new President back in 1992.

Bush Sr seemed like a man of class and grace. I don't remember much of his policies one way or the other. I'm glad he didn't have to live too long without Barbara.

he didn't like broccoli? :shakefist: He's dead to me! Well, to everybody I guess. :( Yes just a few minutes ago I turned on the TV and heard "that music" :bergman: that they play on the news when they come back from a commercial break after somebody important dies. Of course now everyone is sharing their memories & stories about him. He had a very rich, full life and was a true servant of the people in many different areas.
They don't make em' like that anymore!
I remember Dana Carvey's funny impressions of him on SNL "not gonna do it!"

Lol, Trump's statement praises Bush for his "Thousand Points of Light" quote, but at one of his Montana rallies he said:

You didn't have to agree with everything he did to know that he was a man of personal bravery, dignity, decency and belief in public service.

Bill Clinton once wrote that, at an event when Bush was vice president (it may have been at Kennebunkport), Bush was perfectly happy to ignore a room full of VIPs to pay attention to 3-year-old Chelsea. He said he never forgot that personal kindness. (And there probably aren't that many people who have the character to become fast friends with the person who defeated them in a presidential election.)

It's also noteworthy that when he was accused of having an affair with Jennifer Fitzgerald, nobody believed it for a second.

And it's hard not to be envious of how well he tackled aging.

It's probably good that he died not long after Barbara. They were in love for nearly 80 years; I wondered if he was hanging on just because he couldn't stand the thought of leaving her.

I really just remember the PSA and some vague memories of the 92 election. I was 5 going into 6 at the time.

Maybe, but I am not really talking about policy achievements, but rather dignity in office. I think it is important to appreciate that at a time when the office has been turned into a joke by an unintelligent, narcissistic wannabe tinpot dictator.
