Buried on page 4 of some no-name thread? Areyoufuggingkiddingme? The movies deserve their own thread.

Apology accepted. Officers, take him away. *WAB is dragged away by SWAT-ies, he tries to bite them, but their armor is too thick*

I don't even care if she smiles, she sort of half grins in one scene after reading off a cliche in one of the trailer scenes. Speaking of, anyone else notice that every line of Brie's in the trailer is some stock cliche? It's the fact that she totally looks bored throughout the whole thing. She's being held upside down with weird laser beams being shot into her head and her facial expression says "Huh, 50 cents off coffee." She's flying a jet fighter and her facial expression says "Look, a whataburger, am I getting hungry? Nah, I got something to eat at the house."
Can't say her acting choices are good until I see the scene in context. Larsen and Marvel have a good track record; I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.
She doesn't look at all like that guy who says "Shazam!". And the costume doesn't even have a lightning bolt on it.
Larson seems to be doing a great job of fucking up her publicity tour. https://www.cbc.ca/radio/q/blog/bri...our-from-being-overwhelmingly-white-1.5016087
I am highly anticipating this flick, but no matter who owns what copyright, this is Captain Marvel and always will be:
Shazam was Captain Marvel? I've got to admit, I'm lost on all the comic book stuff. Aside from Batman in the 90's, I haven't read superhero comic books since I was in grade school, and those only sporadically. I have really enjoyed the MCU, though- probably more so for NOT having been wrapped up in the comics and their numerous reboots, changes, etc.
^^^ Yes, "Shazam" isn't really named "Shazam", he's named Captain Marvel. "Shazam" is a different character entirely. This Shazam / Captain Marvel business started in 1939 by Fawcett Publications. Was more popular than Superman in the 1940s. Got merged into DC when DC got the rights to all the characters from Fawcett. Marvel Comics introduced THEIR Captain Marvel in 1967. He was a dude. An alien of the Kree race named Mar-Vell. The Captain Marvel film has "Carol Danvers" in the Mar-Vell role. She's one of several people who took on the mantle when Marvel killed off Mar-Vell in the 70s.
Yep, DC, having acquired the rights from Fawcett after a decade-long lawsuit, didn't use Captain Marvel--they considered him just a Superman knockoff--and let the trademark for the character's name lapse. Marvel scooped it up and made their own totally different character and, a couple of iterations later, we have this MCU film. DC brought the original back in the 70s, but books, TV shows, and merchandise had to use the SHAZAM! trademark; they couldn't market the character as Captain Marvel since Marvel owned the trademark on that name. A few years back, DC threw in the towel and changed the character's name to Shazam. One consequence: just uttering "Shazam" doesn't summon the magic lightning; Billy/Shazam must say the word with the intention to transform. Another is that Shazam's powers no longer have their roots in mythological characters (Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, etc.). DC has used an alternate version of Shazam called Captain Thunder. I kinda wish they'd used that name. But I've made peace with his name being Shazam.

Pretty good. Marvel's version of superman is all she should be -- powerful, funny, gleaming, and HELL complicated in terms of backstory. Very mild spoilers:
