This topic presented as a thing shows someone completely missed the main point behind the subject of Smollet's hate crime. In fact, before Smollet I couldn't even make a good argument that "hate crime" should be a thing. This is a false report, as Pally noted. It's a crime society has covered.
They’re not very specific about what the claims of his police report were. They simply say he filed one. If it was false, I think it is clear he should be jailed for a long time.
This isn't the only article on this issue, it's literally all over the news. He used one of his own fake Twitter accounts to make a death threat against himself and then filed a police report against his own Twitter dual.
I didn't really know who he was before today. I may have heard his name before but had no context. A quick Google search this morning revealed that he's someone that virtually everyone agrees is a world class tool and has a history of scamming, lying, and trolling. He is not, to put it mildly, a credible person.
