We're back down to three active cases in the state, and people are definitely getting complacent again. Not as much as a few weeks ago though, with Victoria (next state to ours) still seeing hundreds of cases a day after having almost eradicated it entirely people are definitely more aware that just because things are currently good here it doesn't mean the risk is gone.

In the office currently and the only sign that reminds me of everything going on is that it's half empty with people working from home.

So, I'm off to get tested. No symptoms myself but my child has a cough and a temperature and that means everyone in the house needs the test.
    Results in 48 hours apparently.

I so understand what you’re going through right now. Here’s hoping it’s just a mild case if he does test positive.

He's fine, I'm fairly confident it's just a cold so I'm not that worried (even if it is COVID). Given the symptoms the doctor told us to get him (and us) tested as a precaution.

The test itself was unpleasant for all concerned. Results actually tomorrow morning which is quick. Isolation until then, so my running this evening is postponed.

So we got my grandfather out of the assisted living community that became a prison. OMFG, they were not providing any care for those people. Just food, and they sit in their appartments and get charged huge rent. For the amount of money they charge they could have done something.

Anyway, now we need to wait a few days for the full closing while we are all living together. I hope the closing comes soon. My mother has gone complete psycho micromanager. My father, aka the boyfriend as my grandfather calls him, is just trying to weather the storm and follow commands. Me and my grandfather both agree when we get to our place we will be much more relaxed.

I think he is really comfortable with me. He just opened up his ass crack to me and asked if he washed it good when he was showering. He was afraid to shower for a while and could not wash a lot of his clothing so I was involved because he does not know how to figure out how to operate things anymore. Plus, I wanted to get a good look myself for any rashes or other injuries. It was a little comical, but the bluntness and lack of shame was good.

Within a day I could see an improvement in cognition and memory. He is not ever going to be "good" again, but he was certainly depressed and this move has really seemed to liven him up.

Yes, he is in much more danger, and will have many more areas to be exposed to COVID. However, he really went downhill in the past couple months due to depression and lack of contact. This was the right choice. I do not know what will come of this, but I am hoping for a while of caring for him. I think it will do both of us some good.

My grandfather told me to stop buying him the New York Post. He said he doesn't like reading about all the death and troubles anymore. He has been watching old music shows, golf, and hockey. He has said no to putting on fox news and even asked fo the channel to be changed. I don't think he is getting an idea from the family that right wing media sucks. We are letting him be him, and he is pushing it away. I am not complaining, but it is just odd.

He is trying to get along, and that is great. a fe days until the 9th and then closing so we can move in. The politics of the US are clearly fucked from every angle. Covid is a complete catastrophy and it is because humans are pretty much animals with some science. People are selfish horrible creatures who learn way too late about what they do.

I have to get a Covid test for my next rotation. Really not looking forward to the nasal swab. It makes my eyes water just thinking about it. I asked if they could do a throat swab or anything else if I was willing to pay for it out of pocket, but no. It’s gotta be up the nose. :(

That sucks, but relief might come soon. I’m hopeful because I think there’s a constructive push to amend the Emergency Authorization that -so far- has only allowed the swab-up-nose test which as you said sucks.

It's not as bad as you're anticipating. I've had the nasal swab twice. It sort of feels like when you get water up your nose, or when sometimes you're on your back and you get a runny nose and it runs backwards and you feel as the back of your nose. It's not really painful, more like unpleasant and once it's over it doesn't keep feeling unpleasant.

You guys are lucky, I had to get a rectal swab.

On second thought, maybe that guy wasn't a doctor after all.

It occurred to me today that nasal swabs are no doubt going to be someone’s kink after this.

It's painful only in the moment that it is happening. and not even really painful at that. Afterwords, ... It's kinda like childbirth. But, on a much less pain/time scale. After giving birth, you're like "I'm never doing THAT again", then a year later, you're like "... let's have another baby"

If you ever catch yourself thinking, "let's have another nasal swab", you might want to lie down for a while and reconsider your life choices.

A guy on second shift, who rarely misses work, was out all this past week. Naturally, we all wondered if he'd gotten infected. Turns out that his brother had died and I couldn't help but notice we were all relieved by this information.

One of my friends who has some serious health conditions just posted on FB that she's tested positive. She was supposed to have surgery this week to help solve the problems and now that's been delayed for at least a month.
