Lincoln also didn't say that, and I'm sure Biden probably knows that. He also knows how to plug into American mythology, as demonstrated by his comments in that clip. That has potential for him to be more than might otherwise be expected.

if we get the Senate, even 50-50, I expect considerable goodness, and I harbor hope that without Trump on the ballot - and with the receipts from a 2018/2020 comparison, the mid-terms might be unusually fruitful (I want Ron Johnson in particular to bite it). But I also think he'll have to wade through a pit of Republican snakes for every single accomplishment.

And, now that I'm on the topic of style, everyone on the board knows that Nova responds to posts as she comes across them. So, she may well have 5 posts in a row all quoting a different post within a thread.

gturner, on the other hand, would post 5 posts in a row all with the same thought, but different links. As if he found something better to say.

This again, is different from Diacanu, who will post something, then respond to his own previous post, then respond to that previous post ...

There is consistency. Just maybe not how you like it. If you pay attention, you'll realize, the mods here really get to know the posters and their style and know who is spamming and who is not.

Exactly. I think Biden will face less of an uphill battle loo with Moscow Mitch just for that alone.

At this point, any effort Trump makes to stay in the White House will just make his exit more rough.

I suddenly understand the affect behind, "Make my day, punk." Part of me hopes he'll make ours.

    No.

@Nova responds to several different posts in one go, addressing each individually.
@Jenee sums it up quite nicely, actually.

Hey, when you slink back in a few months time I'd love to know how you square this belief with Donald Trump now being the only US President to have ever lost the popular vote twice.

Now that Dayton and oldfella are gone, you really seem to be vying for WF goober. I don’t know what inadequacies you’re trying to compensate by these pathetic attempts to own people but you’re only lowering yourself to the levels of the feeble minded folks I mentioned. You should probably give some serious thought to getting some professional mental health counseling if you don’t want people to lump you in with Dayton and oldfella.

The really bad bad thing is that a president who LOST by 4 million votes AND lost by the antique voting system has a relatively clear path to hang on to his chair. Enter Amy Coney Barrett. Who has, to my understanding, not yet said thank you Mr. President for the chance to enforce my stone age views. So, chances are she will if Trump manages to bring this before SCOTUS.

Which will of course lose any confidence people still have in the institution if it's voting along party lines.

There is also the case of who sends which electors.

In both cases, the USA will burn. The majority will not just look on while this election gets stolen. People remember the year 2000 - and 4 more years of Trump will be much, much worse than even GWB was.

No, he doesn't have a clear path.

Media is not going to call it until it's so obvious even the intellectually challenged won't make much fuss.

It may wait for states to certify the votes. Couple weeks.

In the meantime enjoy the show.

Things are already so outside the norm that I wouldn't count anything out, but right now my hunch would be that they won't force Trump back into office for exactly that reason. They've got what they needed out of him, and supporting him risks too much.

Right now the Republicans have loaded SCOTUS with their picks, and they look to hold onto the Senate. The court not supporting Trump would defuse enough fear to make it more likely that in any potential January Senate runoff elections they keep that control.

I am pessimistic enough to think that runoffs will be unlikely to go the Dems' way. I think that the Republicans are prepared to be way more ruthless and spend way more money than the Dems. I think without antagonism for Trump being a motivator, a lot of Dem voters may ease up on the throttle. And the flipside is probably true for GA Republicans -- they will be extra motivated to win one for the Trumpster. I think that efforts to suppress voters in GA will kick into overdrive, despite Abrams's good work. And I think that having a narrower and probably softer target, our Russian friends might have a bigger role than they generally do in trying to influence the election.

This may be the election in which doctors move solidly to the Dem column. For decades being a doctor carried the ultimate country club gravitas- you work in private practice, you make a lot of money, and you talk about how great Ronald Reagan was.

Now we have far fewer doctors in private practice. Many are immigrants or PoC. COVID-19 has exposed a metric ton of misinformation as patients show up to the ER with little knowledge of the virus. Science is being crowded out by hysterical partisan rants.

Interesting thought. But I suspect a combination of wealth, upbringing, and fear of socialized medicine may keep doctors more Republican than not still.

    "vying"?!?

Even though we're still counting the WF mail-in votes, I'd say he's definitely won the title.

I think you're way off base in most of your post.

If Biden squeaks by with just 270 EC votes, I can see some cause for concern. But he's going to win a clear majority of both the popular vote and the Electoral College. Even if the Trump campaign is able to somehow knock down the results of one state, there are four others they'd have to plough through. Not going to happen.

Your point about the USA burning, however, is unfortunately closer to the mark. :(
