Please link to even one such post. One. If they are so numerous that the only way not to see them is to be willfully blind, that shouldn't be difficult.
Okay. That's one. That's a start. Thank you. We won't immediately go for "literally filled" (especially as I'm quite a stickler on the word literally, since hermeneutics is one of my specialties). We'll give you an easier assignment for the next level: Give me 50 such quotes. That's still not even the same order of magnitude as "literally filled", but it's a step closer. Go for it!
Good ol' Hermen. I saw him at the class reuinion. He looked great, but I had trouble understanding him.
Hello Mr. Asyncritus, Thank you for contacting my office. I've reviewed your proposal, and unfortunately at this time I am going to have to deny your request. My current interest in proving my point is lower than my interest in not doing the amount of work required to prove my point. If this situation should change in the future, I will re-examine your request. Sincerely Yours, The Management GhostEcho Holdings LLC.
So clearly this is bullshit; no one has seriously said that, your only example literally starting with "lol". What people have said, rightly, is that an enormous amount of people will die if we don't take precautions such as wearing masks. By your own numbers upthread, we would be talking about roughly 2.1 million people for the US alone; and your numbers are far, far lower than medical estimates, with roughly 5 million being much more likely. And note that it is heartbreakingly unnecessary. There is a serious debate to be had about closing workplaces, schools, churches. But wearing a little piece of cloth across your mouth when in public, for a few months? To prevent millions of deaths? How the hell is that even a question for any human being?
IOW, Wordforge is "literally filled" but finding 50 such posts would be a lot of work. Just go ahead and admit that you were blatantly distorting the truth, instead of trying those kinds of games.
No one has actually said we're all going to die, at least not in the past few days I'm willing to check. They have said it's idiotic to flaunt restrictions. I'm well aware of the figures. Figures which are based on the situation as stands, mind you, not some hypothetical but entirely possible worst case wherein everyone refused to play ball. That distinction is important, what we are seeing is the pandemic tamed by the measures in place, not what it could be without them. Even so, that still, by your own link, leaves us with a significantly increased individual likelihood of death in the 12 month period. That in practise translates to now well over a million and a half dead worldwide and rising. If that doesn't strike you as large enough to warrant mandatory precautions to reduce the spread (note-not to protect yourself per se) then what, in your view, would? How bad need it be to justify such simple measures? Alien invasion? Nuclear holocaust? Armageddon? Cut back on those restrictions and the rate of increase will shoot up, we have ample evidence of that by now. We are keeping some degree of check on this. Not enough, but some, and an increase in exposure becomes a self perpetuating concern if that check is not kept.
I know. I am, however, disagreeing with your earlier comment about how easily "the left" ( who or whatever that is) will resort to authoritarianism given the feeblest of excuses. The response of most governments has been anything BUT authoritarian given the circumstances and the by now very clear picture of the effectiveness of those restrictions in saving lives. I'm struggling to understand your reasoning in playing down the efficacy of something which surely is now beyond doubt. Your assessment of this situation as "not that bad" hinges entirely on the fact of those restrictions being in place, one is proof of the veracity of the other.
I'm not "playing it down". I am playing it straight" in the face of people who are overexaggerating it. My comments in that thread about "the left will resort to authoritarianism given the feeblest of excuses" was a wry comment directed at the posters who were wishing that a little police brutality was thrown in to the legal action against the BBQ place. Do YOU support police brutality against COVID scofflaws?
I already clarified my position on that. There are few, if any, justifications for state brutality and made it clear from the word go this isn't such a situation. However, have you ever supported police brutality? If so, what was the situation and why was it worse than millions of deaths?
Never once. I respect the job they have to do, but I am (and always have been) very uncomfortable with the amount of power they wield.
Which posters were that? I'd appreciate naming and shaming since anyone encouraging police brutality should be called out. Also, since you don't want to, if you let me know what search terms to use I'm quite happy on my lunch break to dig up some of these posts saying we/you are all going to die that Wordforge is literally filled with.
Sometimes I just forget that it's on. Plus, I usually put the loops behind the earpieces of my glasses, so if I'm already driving when I realize I'm still wearing it, taking it off is more hassle than it's worth.
Ooohh! Idea! Convince the anti-maskers it's a bandana and you should put it on whenever you plan to rob or murder someone, like in Red Dead Redemption 2!!
Looping it over the earpieces also keeps my glasses from sliding down my nose. And I've finally found a simple solution to the fogging issue... those little silk eyeglass cloths the optometrist gives out.
So happy the Brits volunteered to test the vaccin for us. We're gonna miss 'm when they're gone. I mean, from the EU, not that they're ALL GONNA DIE. So, 300+ pages of virus posts. What did I miss? Who else got it? And who won the election, by the way? Any word? I bet it's Hillary. And anyone get married? Kids? Grandkids? Died?
Unlike whatever snake oil the Trump administration is peddling, the Pfizer vaccine has undergone rigorous phase 3 testing with negligible side effects (mainly soreness around the injection site, similar to what you'd get with a flu shot).
I've said I support police brutality against those violating covid restrictions, but I was 35% joking. Today it's more like 10%. It should be legal to attack them, just like anyone that knowingly attempts to cause harm and death to the public.
