Vibranium absorbs energy that impacts it, including kinetic.

Volpone also sucks all the energy out of a room.

Ive just binged the 2 series. This is my first visit to this thread, iv not read it, and i have read nothing about the mandalorian online, so no doubt most of this has been covered.

Before i get into it, i did quite enjoy it. It was good turn brain off tv. Some points however......

    - im sceptical that a mandalorians armour can be as strong as they make out or else these guys would be virtually invinceable

    - for a time shortly after ROTJ, there is an awful lot of the empire and storm troopers running about

    - Appolo Creed seems to get a free pass for trying to kill mando

    - how can the razor quest so easily take down 3 Tie fighters?

    - after the crash in the ice planet the ship is a disaster with holes all over the hull so he explains everyone has to sit in thr cockpit..... except he seems to forget the bog spider smashed his windscreen!

    - Gus Frings light saber looked like a good guy blue one when he cut himself out the crash. Series 2 its black

    - if mandalorians are so good at fighting, how did Bobo Fet get launched into the pit of sarlak by a blind guy?

    - indeed, bobo fet should be getting slowly digested over a period of 10,000 years

    - pretty much every episode Mando turns up and sorts out a local issue. Hes like the A team

    - how are they tracking baby yoda? Just find his chip mando and pull it out

    - what was snake head jedi lady up to when Luke was busy fighting the empire? What a pussy she must be.

Finally, my biggest question, and this isnt something that bothers me as a child of the 80s, but, how on earth in the current period of political correctness and wokeism, did Disney sign off on naming a mandalorian - mando?

Everyone calls him it. Seriously? For real? How is that any different from calling someone from Pakistan - Paki? Someone from China - Chinky? It just seems strange to me that in 2020 and 2021, that that got through.

Dunno how much the sequels have altered this, but the old EU material stated the Empire had 25,000 Star Destroyers. Each with 72 TIEs and thousands of troopers. How many got taken down at Endor and Jakku? Enough to drive the Empire into the Outer Rim (which is where The Mandalorian is set), but likely they still have a lot of firepower - it's just too fragmented with Palps gone to organize (lots of infighting for control).

It's like that Robot Chicken sketch.

    "Ope, Emperor's dead, we lose".

"But we still have thousands of ships, why don't we just destroy them?".

    "Nope, Emperor's dead".

    ".....huh".

Just a few specific responses because much of what you said makes sense.

    1. The reason why there are a lot of Empire and Storm Troopers running around is exactly because it's only a short time after ROTJ. It's not like the Empire that spanned an entire galaxy ceased to exist the second that the Emperor was dead and Death Star 2 was gone. Every Moff and Sector Governor that didn't run and hide for fear of war crimes trials now fancies himself the true successor and lots of mini-Empires popped up. It takes the New Republic some time to squash all these little mini-Empires.

    2. "Gus Fring's" lightsaber was black in every appearance on the Mandalorian. You might have not paid close enough attention. It was never "good guy blue".

    3. Boba Fett isn't a "real" Mandalorian. They explained this when he met Din Djarin (Our own Mando). He's only a Mandalorian by heredity. Besides, Han was really, really, really lucky. (The Force at work?)

    4. I don't think they ever did explain how he go out of the Sarlacc anyway. I assume his Beskar armor protected him and he blasted his way out? That's the only thing that makes sense.

Well, in the current continuity Mandalorians aren't strictly a race, they're a creed. And the ones on Nevarro are mostly in hiding. But it's mostly on Mando himself for seeming to tell too many people his real name. Gotta refer to him as something.

Don't remember which thread the discussion was in, but I just finished watching The Mandalorian again for the second time and ... I gotta tell ya ... I don't think Gina Carano is a very good actress. She's very stiff and she completely pulls the audience out of the story. She looks like she's acting. She doesn't look natural. In the scenes in the last episode where she's paired with Ming Na, she looks a bit more at ease and a little more natural, but that's probably more due to Ming Na's professional experience and possible tutoring, than (I think) Gina's ability to learn to act.

I disagree. I consider the physical skills just as important as a dramatic reading (not that her character is meant to be a long-winded drama queen soap opera cartoon being who over-emotes for the close-ups), and Carano pulls off that part with WAY more credibility than Ming Na with her dance opera style of "fighting" on screen.

Or replace her with Elliott Page, and draw lots of attention to it in the story.

I agree that her fighting style looks more realistic, but I don’t watch tv and movies for the fight scenes. In fact, when it’s just me, I skip over those parts.

Really? You didn’t find her acting stiff? I really wanted to like her. Especially after all the controversy. But …, she … does the same thing I do - tenses muscles in her shoulders and next and is very stiff. It’s like the first season of TNG and Beverly Crusher walks and moves very stiff.

It’s possible Carano could have and would have loosened up over the years. But …, as it is, her movements were very jarring to me as the audience.

This. She wasn't hired for her acting skills, she was hired to be the New Republic Commando Badass who has just enough lines to advance the story. Her acting would have improved over time.

No franchise with the Hayden Christensen "sand" scene in it is looking to set the bar for Emmy Award winning actors.

Caruso's issue wasn't that she was wooden, but that she was as dumb as a plank when it came to reading the room and spotting that Disney wasn't backing her shit.

And that Disney hadn't quite caught on to the fact that the few hundred bitter ghouls composing the screechy twitter call-out mobs do not represent the entirety of the money-spending consumer base. There is a faint morsel of hope that this shit is beginning to correct itself.

You know Carano had a stunt double, right? I'd be surprised if she performed the majority of her fight scenes herself. Most productions don't want to take that risk because an injured actress or actor can put the entire crew out of work for weeks or months at a time.
