Zach Snyder’s newest zombie instalment is out soon on Netflix and you can watch the first 15 minutes here:

I liked Snyder’s last zombie flick, Dawn of the Dead, so will definitely give this a shot. Slimeball Phil Dunphy is definitely a highlight in that film

Basically this one is zombies in Vegas meets a heist film. It’s got Dave Bautista in it who is shockingly very very good in everything I’ve seen him in

Oooooh, on netflix, I am so there. I am still cool with most of the zombie movies as long as they give me a good cast, a fucked up opening, and some good zombie terror. I like the fast moving dawn of the dead zombies.

    Saw it last night.

Fucking hated it. With a passion.

Zack Snyder is a hack, with Man of Steel being the only exception that absolutely proves the rule.

    Fuck Zack Snyder.

(His director's cut of Justice League released just a month or so ago is proof that he's a no-talent egotistical plodder.)

ALSO... as soon as I heard the Cranberries' "Zombie" at the end of the film, the realization dawned on me that I will kick that cocksucker square in the balls if I ever meet him in person.

Only a soulless fucking hack would take one of my generation's greatest protest songs and use in a tacky piece of shit like this film. So fuck BMG for even licensing it to that prick Snyder.

Don't watch it. Even for laughs.

    It sucks.

    P.S. - fuck Zack Snyder.

The movie was full of covers. The song zombie was an overplayed whinefest anyway. Not nearly worth getting all bothered about. They also had a cover of bad moon rising if I remember right.

The movie itself has a bunch of homages to other better movies that you can spot. I am almost positive the scene of the head zombie riding a horse was made to look like Rick in TWD riding through the wasted Atlanta cityscape. There were a few scenes that reminded me of scenes from other zombie movies.

The whole movie is just a combo of heist film and zombie movie. You have to go into it looking for a fun movie with no real depth. This is obviously not for your movie snob, or for people with snyder derangement syndrome obviously. If you do not have those hatreds the movie goes along at a good paste and does improve zombies to an extent by introducing new behaviors to make things difficult for a team of mercs who know how shamblers work.

You could easily make a drinking game out of whenever an homage or cover song is spotted. Of course, you would probably die horribly even if you were using water.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, certainly more than I thought I was going to.

The opening scene almost stopped me from watching the movie. Granted, having sex always gets you killed in horror movies, it's a trope, but when the car rammed into the top secret convoy from area 51 the only thing I could think of was 'they put the top secret payload in a truck in the very front without blockers running for it? No.'

But past that it was actually quite a bit of fun. Dave Bautista can't act but is charming and credible as an action hero. The cast overall was good - and I'm amazed that they actually removed an entire character and then replaced them with Tig Notaro via cgi. Notaro also can't act that well, but is fun and charismatic, and the fact all her lines were to a green screen, none to the actual actors, she actually pulled it off fairly well.

I REALLY like the fact that the stupid idealistic girl who did shit that should get a lot of people killed actually got a lot of people killed, even the people she explicitly was trying to save.

The German safecracker Dieter was a riot, and his chemistry with the black mercenary was excellent, and I loved how that ended.

The subplot was a bit 'meh', but it added character conflict so OK.

I thought it was well direct and the cinematography was excellent.

And I really enjoyed having some mystery to the baddies. And a different layer - some of the baddies were evidently robots, so the government was up to something that wasn't revealed at all in the film.

And we are already lined up for two more in the same universe.

I give it an A- for a fun action zombie flick. Certainly way better than the Dead Don't Die, even though that had a stellar cast.

No, just different asses in the chairs watching. I tend to be critical at times too, perhaps overly so. A lot of it has to do with expectations - I didn't expect much, and it was better than expected. Whereas when I went to see Knives Out I was told how it was this amazing whodunnit, and it was laughably bad IMO.

Evidently this Zombie flick one of the most popular things Netflix ever produced, so we are going to see more of it. And Snyder is in talks with Netflix on several other projects.

So I guess you'll have more criticism to level on that score, while I'll have to deal with the Knives Out sequels coming to Netflix.

Which, once again, was a pathetic movie. :D

I just learned via this thread that Tig Notaro was CGI'd over another actor.

    Wow. I had no idea.

Then again... most of the time I was watching the shitfest that is Army of the Dead, my brain was mostly focused on not having aneurysm from their sheer stupidity of the film.

EDIT: So is there going to be a #releasethedeliacut trend on Twitter now? :diacanu:
