True many of his own songs are quite good. But covers are often successful because a lot of music fans/consumers say they want originality but they actually crave some level of familiarity.
good point! Well played Tom. Side note today at Walmart they were playing "Here Comes My Girl" from "Damn The Torpedoes" a song you don't hear as often as some of his other songs, but it's one of his best IMHO.
Agree. Dwight has a great voice, especially for country, but the Asian dude who plays with him, can never remember his name, is the shit. He makes Dwight who he is.
okay so Dwight does some covers, but how about when bands cover Dwight? I'll give them an "A" for effort, but the end result maybe B+ Submitted for your approval, the cover and the original: Flatt Lonesome - "You're The One" - Radio Bristol Sessions - YouTube Dwight Yoakam - You're The One (Video) - YouTube
train in vain was the B side to London Calling single... I like the original better, but... cover original lyrics for those who don't speak punk I was beamed aboard the starship Enterprise What I felt what I saw was a total surprise I looked around and wondered can this be Or is this the start of my insanity Oh but it's true as we went warp factor 2 And I met all of the crew Where's Captain Kirk? Where's Captain Kirk? Where's Captain Kirk? Where's Captain Kirk? I went to the bridge and we were tossed about In the storm of the vortex I was hit with a doubt I saw in a dream in a memory of mine Was it you was it me who was in all the time Spock pulled me through As we went warp factor 2 And someone I saw I knew Who's Captain Kirk? Who's Captain Kirk? Who's Captain Kirk? Who's Captain Kirk? Where's Captain Kirk? Where's Captain Kirk? Where's Captain Kirk? Where's Captain Kirk? So when I awoke from the dangers of space I looked and I saw a familiar face The time warp in space made a change in me For I was the captain and the captain was me Yes it's so true As we went warp factor 2 The changes I had been through As Captain Kirk I'm Captain Kirk He's Captain Kirk He's Captain Kirk Yes it's so true As we went warp factor 2 The changes I had to do As Captain Kirk I'm Captain Kirk I'm Captain Kirk, oh yeah, oh yeah I'm Captain Kirk Let's go!
This guy is in his twenties, but is passing the torch to new Dead fans. I believe in a man with grey hair and a big beard, but I don’t call him God, his name is Jerry Garcia. For those who don’t like the Dead (@shootER ), this is an old Irish/American folk song adapted to modern time by Dylan and then later covered by The Dead as well as others. I could go into an argument of whether modern music is influenced by old slave songs or old bluegrass folk songs, it that’s for another thread. Anyway, I love story songs and this one is great, IMO. ETA: Forgot to include the video.
heh... just reminded me of this guy... funny thing is when I googled his name a site called "setlist" showed up and linked to a gig I was at
