Cheers. The situation is bad. A few hundred deaths, thousands homeless, including some of my students. We here have just lost cellars and whatever was inside, so we are very lucky.

Wordforgers might be interested in the impressive cognitive disconnect of neolib politicians grandstanding next to the homeless and telling them that the flood that has just washed away their centuries-old ancestral homes is a common occurrence that does not point to any recent changes in the weather.

I wonder if my grandmother's old family home is OK. She used to get checks from the german government because it was converted into some sort of government owned relic of the past. The town locations slip so quickly out of my memory, but I remember her telling stories about the multi generational family farm and how it was built around this huge stone made chimney. They built additions onto it over the years as the family grew. It seems like the foundation of the house was made for the expansion of family rather than the present way where the house is made to last only a few decades.

When they came to america my grandfather and her bought a three story old school house meant to be a multifamily home with a huge barn. It eventually ended up being three full apartments where you could see the unused farmland in the back, and how it subdivided for sale over the years of development. You do not get those houses back when they get wrecked. There is a construction, smell, and history to them that is gone.

Not to be totally cruel to the loss, but at least it was lost to nature as cities and homes were. It wasn't completely raised by development that removed any trace. This is one of the ways multigenerational houses back then eventually got destroyed and burried. My thought is some of those foundations and stone built internals would have done far better than the shit we build with today when the mud and flooding came. I know it is not a relief for most, but my view is if it has to go then having it taken in a more old school way seems to be comforting for some odd reason. Now that I spell it out that way it does seem a bit silly.

At least you seem to be safe from the flooding, if not idiot politicians. Good luck to you and the rest of your countrymen.

    Red moon tonight.

A few days ago the baby was walking around in the grass and got black on his feet. We decided it was soot carried here from all the wildfires elsewhere.

    This seems noteworthy.

The amount of Greenland ice that melted on Tuesday could cover Florida in 2 inches of water

So, how's the asteroid attractor going?
Do you need to make any changes to your plans now that it's likely Chicxulub didn't wipe out the dinos on its own, but needed help from the Deccan Traps and the following Ukraine asteroid?
